A group of us ate at the Cave Creek location. While it is near our house, we realized that we had not eaten here for over 10 years since there are other Mexican restaurants we like more. We were pleasantly surprised when we revisited. I think that one of the issues we had with Valle Luna was the cigarette smoke smell. Now that indoor restaurant smoking is illegal, that annoyance has gone away. Maybe some of their other customers will return.
Valle Luna is still kind of rundown, so only three dots. The area where we sat had paintings on the wall that looked like that they had been bought at a motel foreclosure sale. However, the rest of the experience was better. Service was excellent. Our waitress Katie remembered all eight of our orders and got them all correct. Although we had to wait a bit at first, water and chips were served promptly. So five dots for service. Food was very good but not excellent. I had the shrimp fajitas while my wife ordered the fondito. Hers was a little spicy and I had more onions than shrimp but it was tasty. So, four dots. Value was excellent. Valle Luna is on Restaurant.Com and so we ate at a discount (but tipped at the pre coupon total). They offer coupons in the local value pak too. So five dots for excellent value.
Over all, we would go back. So four dots for a very good experience.
