We did two Detours trips during our stay in Phoenix. I am reviewing them separately due to the completely different experiences we had on our trips. This is the review for the Grand Canyon tour. Let me say that the tour itself was fantastic. Our guide, Jay, was knowledgeable and helpful...however, his driving made my family and me very uncomfortable. I have read other reviews about this, and I have also read Detours responses about how guests are not always comfortable with the 75mph speed limit in AZ. I assure you that the driving that made us uncomfortable had nothing to do with the 75mph speed limit. While a very nice man, Jay's driving was unacceptable. He was aggressive, and in our opinions, dangerous. He followed other cars too closely and flashed his lights repeatedly at any vehicle in front of the Detours van. Coming down the Colorado Plateau, he followed another car so closely, that when they tapped their brakes, Jay had to go into the other lane to avoid hitting the car. I take the safety of my family very seriously, and this was a deal-breaker for us. Seeing the Grand Canyon was amazing, but the unnecessary risks that Jay took driving us there and back will make me think twice about ever using this company again. --On another note, we booked two Detours tours for our trip and decided to go ahead with the 2nd one, as it was a different driver. It was a very positive experience with a guide named Bruce who was a very safe driver. The lesson here...it's all about the driver. Do some research before you get in the van.
