“Not worth the trip”

Visited the Skywalk ay Grand canyon West May 2nd 2008. It was an "interesting" visit but not what I thought it would be.
As others have said, probably quite a feat of engineering but not worthy of the hype or cost to view it.
Overall a bit of a disappointment, leaving the feeling that the owners were just extracting as much revenue from visitors while paying lip service to the heritage and history of place and of the people who once lived there.
I was glad to have been to the North and South rims previously or I would have been left with quite the wrong impression of the Grand Canyon.
With hind sight I would not have visited as the negatives far outweigh the positives, I would not recommend a visit to the Skywalk but suggest that a better option would be to go to the south rim instead.

Absolutely terrific. It was amazing how you tend to walk differently on the side of the glass than you do in the centre.
A little wierd feeling in the stomach.
GREAT TRY IT

“Deceptively priced tourist trap”

Skywalk Grand Canyon

We enjoyed the 2-1/2 hour drive down windy, dirt road, through Joshua Tree Forest. But when we got to the visitor's parking area, we were very disappointed. Based on the pricing we had been given, we expected to pay $30 x 4 people, for a total of $120. However, it was $20 to park (why?), $30 per person for the Skywalk and $30 per person for the shuttle bus out to the Skywalk, which the ticket agent seemed overly eager to stress "is the only way out to the skywalk" (she blurted that out before even being asked), bringing the total for our party of 4 to $280 with tax. So we could only afford to let 2 people go, while the other 2 sat in the terminal for 1-1/2 hours. The 2 that did go said it was an okay experience, but the views weren't any better than the ones we got from our South Rim and Desert View tours. So we basically spent a full day of our precious vacation time being lured out to a deceptively priced tourist trap. Live and learn.

I never thought I would hear myself say that a magnificent natural creation was overpriced! This venue is not ready for the public yet. The dirt road leading to the skywalk is about fourteen miles of rocky road (rental car drivers beware). I'm not kidding, 25 mph is too fast. You are charged $20 just to park, then $29 to get on the bus and then another $29 to walk on the skywalk. There is still a lot of construction there and really no snackbar to relax and have a cool drink. The skywalk itself is an amazing feat of engineeering and the view is wonderful. I think they are about 6 months to a year away from being a place to recommend.

“alot smaller in real life”

Skywalk Grand Canyon

i knew about all the negative revews that i had read; long queues, no cameras, you have to wear special socks that they give you over your shoes etc, so i knew what to expect.

i had to do it - i was so scared - the middle bit is glass - i just run over that bit to get from one side to the other.

there are two permenent cameras there and a photographer on the glass that will take a picture of you if you ask them.
The photos are not cheap - $25 per pic(if you choose to buy) and they are not great quality either - although the picture comes in a nice folder.

what i noticed is that the skywalk is a lot smalled in real life. - no way as long as the photos make out.

i am glad i did it - but i can see why visitors moan about the cost and no camera rule.

maybe sooner or later they will let people take pictures.
