I booked the stay for one night. Unfortunately I had to cancel. Grey Hackle's cancellation policy is you MUST cancel 7 day prior. Since it was only 24 hours I would be charge for my $90 one day room rate. Instead I was charged $371.88. When I called 2 weeks later regarding the over charge, the explanation was they did not know how to reverse an over charge. So instead they charged me again. Even after this problem, their customer service was to insist they still charge the cancellation fee. This incident lead me to believe my credit card had receive fraud charges that I am still working on correcting and a month later I am still waiting for my credit from Grey Hackle. I now am going to have to send them a demand letter and possible file a small claims suit. BEWARE of giving these people your credit card number.

I made reservations at the Grey Hackle Lodge based on reviews at TripAdvisor. I was pleasantly surprised! Good location. A short and easy
drive from Sedona. The owners, Nanci and Eric, were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms were cleaner than expected. The owners obviously
take great pride in their business and are very concerned with making a good impression to maintain a repeat business. I stayed in cabin #9 with
my dog and really enjoyed the peacefulness and solitude. I, personally, would upgrade to the 1 or 2 bedroom cabins for my next stay for the minimal price difference. If you are looking for a kicked back place with good fishing, peace of mind and nice hikes, I would highly recommend the Grey Hackle. Nanci is a great host and a 'fountain of knowledge' regarding the area attractions and activities. You should feel free to ask her anything.

I am already pondering a return visit.

Cozy cabins in the pines

For those who may not be familiar with Christopher Creek, it's a tiny vacation community in the pines. There's one market, two restaurants, and lots of cabins. The main things to do are fishing, hiking, sleeping, reading and generally just relaxing.
My husband and I stayed in Cabin 9 from July 30 through August 1, 2005. It was hard to tell from Grey Hackle's website, but the cabins are actually rather close to each other (this was the one drawback). Most of the cabins face into a shared courtyard area. Each cabin has a BBQ grill (although we couldn't use them due to fire restrictions in the area) and picnic tables. What I liked best about Cabin 9 was its large covered porch and porch swing. We enjoyed sitting on the porch swing and watching the thriving hummingbird population fight over the feeder hanging right in front of us.
As far as the inside of the cabin goes, it was just as the picture on their website showed. A single room, with a bed, recliner, kitchenette, small table with chairs, fireplace, TV and a bathroom. It was PLENTY of room for the two of us. The kitchenette only had a stove, which was our only way to cook. I missed not having a microwave, but we managed just fine.
Overall, the cabin was clean and comfortable. Despite the fact that the cabins are relatively close to one another, we had plenty of peace and quiet. The cabin was great for sleeping. We went to bed early, slept in late, and took naps. It made for a restful escape for the weekend. I hope to do it again!
