“Charming, quiet, relaxing, beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

My wife and I have been to the Scottsdale area several times but this was our first time at the Hermosa. Friends had recommended it to us and now it's my pleasure to do the same here. There are many upscale hotels in which to stay around the Scottsdale area and several of them are very nice--for hotels. But we found the Hermosa to be our best experience yet! Although you have several choices of casita styles/prices, we were lucky enough to be in one of their Grande Casitas for 5 nights. All of the staff, from the gardeners to management were very friendly and helpful. With the added benefit of having the highly regarded Lon's restaurant on site for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you don't even have to leave the property to enjoy your stay. The service, the atmosphere and the accomodations are all top notch. Highly recommended if you want more privacy and are not a huge fan of the big hotel experience or just want to try something different!

Room Tip: Look for specials and upgrades to help your budget.

we visited this charming property in May for a friends's wedding. we selected a casita type room. upgrade if you can! the pool and dining terraces are lovely. What i enjoyed the most were the brunches, the location( proximate to Taliesin West) , the hiking we enjoyed on Camelback mountain, and tge late night cocktails around the firepit. I would recommed for a couples getaway
and would love to return.

Room Tip: upgrade if possible to grand casita

We arrived to a nice hidden location.
Our room was pretty standard, so we were a bit disappointed for the price we paid. It had carpet that looked worn, the room had a fireplace with the knob to turn it higher/lower within the pit? We didn't want to try it. We found the shower hot water tap had no end, so you had to fiddle with it just right to make sure it was off or until you had the right hot temperature set. The shower head is no taller than 5'5, my husband is 6'2! The air conditioning unit was extremely loud, so most nights we had the back door open for fresh air, we didn't want the window open, as it was facing the main walk way. Our room had a single kcup Keurig machine - a bit difficult to use for tea drinkers who want hot water.
Wireless was average, most occasions real slow.
We didn't utilize the pool or fire pit area. But the whole area is quiet, only noise you get is people outside your door or from the restaurant when in that area of the inn.
We did try Lon's, the restaurant on site, and loved the atmosphere and service, the food is excellent, you won't be disappointed!

Hermosa Inn is a boutique hideaway in Scottsdale (actually in Paradise Valley), the wealthy part of Phoenix. It was originally built by Lon Marargee in the 1930 and was beyond the city limits of Phoenix. It was the time of prohibition and the Inn still has the underground tunnels that lead to bunkers to hide in. I read all the reviews and was a bit worried that we had made a bad choice – I was wrong, the hotel was gracious, friendly and the room, with fireplace, was wonderful. We had dinner about 10 minutes away, the Phoenix City Grill, and enjoyed breakfast at Lon’s. My wife wanted something that was not on the breakfast menu – we asked and were told that would not a problem. The Hermosa Inn is a nice small hotel. You park your own car and take your own baggage to your room. The grounds are inviting and the flowers in January were a nice touch. Art instillations everywhere. Our stay was quiet and enjoyable.

My hubby and I decided to leave the cold of Colorado to head to the sun and warmth of Arizona (sadly, Mother Nature decided otherwise and it RAINED THE WHOLE TIME WE WERE THERE)!!!!!! Yikes!

I had never been to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and we thought that it would be a nice winter getaway, the rain was awful, but the Hermosa Inn is very lovely.

We had what I guess is called a "Rancho" which wasn't as large as the casita's are, but it was very nice and well appointed. There was a fireplace in the room which was divine to fall asleep to. We had a nice little patio area, but because of the non stop rain (SInce when does it rain in Arizona, and for 48 hours straight)? we couldn't use it sadly, but it looked nice. Also, due to the weather we couldn't use the pool area which was a shame because it looked really nice.

We did not eat at Lon's preferring to go into Scottsdale for dinner but we did have a few drinks at the bar the Last Drop. The bartenders we met, Rae and Jeremy were super nice and knew their craft very well, executing lovely Martini's and sharing the recipes with my hubby who is an amateur bartender at our home bar. They were very friendly and explained the history of the propety and took pride in their work and job. They impressed us greatly.

One negative, with all the rain, the roof in the bathroom in our room was leaking, rain dripping onto the floor. When seated on the toilet, when paying almost 300.00 dollars a day one doesn't expect to see rain dripping on the floor directly in front of you. In total fairness, i know they don't get a lot of rain in Arizona and we did tell the desk and they said they sent someone out to fix it but it continued to leak. However, we gave them a pass because I believe this rain was so much in such a short amount of time they were unprepared to cope with it. I was just a little surprised they didn't comp us in some small way for this, Cerrtainly the resort can't be held responsible for an act of God but for the we sp amount of money we spent on the room could they not have offered a free appetizer at the bar? A bottle of cheap wine? Some incentive to return? Nope.

Having said that, this is a lovely resort property and I hope to return again someday and hopefully the weather will be MUCH BETTER and we will be able to really get the feel of the resort.

I would go back

I had read reviews and expected to be wowed. When the receptionist noted our voucher from Jetsetter, she looked sad! Then took us to a smallish room on the edge of the property that seemed a bit scruffy. Though the bed was just okay, we liked the fireplace cactus garden, and the statuary. Dinner was great but expensive.

Thank you for the review. We are sorry to hear that our customer service didn’t live up to it’s usual quality during your visit - our Director of Guest Experience was made aware of this occurrence so that it doesn't happen in the future. We hope to one day have another chance at upping the wow factor for you during a future stay.

The Hermosa Inn is not your "A" typical Inn, but that's what makes it special. It comes with charm and uniqueness that makes you feel like a modern cowboy living in the southwest.

The property is in a residential part of Paradise Valley, just minutes away from Scottsdale. It was originally designed and built by cowboy artist Lon Megargee in the 1930s as his private residence. There really isn't a main building where all the rooms are located. The rooms are sprinkled throughout the property as casitas. Many sit alone, but some are nestled together in small groups.

The rooms are comfortable and have a traditional Southwest design. Our casita was one of the oldest and had tons of charm. The casita had a full wall of closets with plenty of storage for hanging and folded items. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was efficient with a mexican tile floor, vanity top and walk-in shower keeping with the southwest theme. The bathroom even had a skylight for added light in the shower.

The pool isn't big, but it's perfect for lounging around and cooling off during HOT days. Didn't have a chance to eat at Lon's, but everyone who had said the food was great. Just plan on spending a few bucks.

If you like something a little off main street with rustic luxury and charm, check out Hermosa Inn next time you're in Phoenix.
