I recently spent a month at the Oro Valley Hotel & Suites while on business, at the time when it was transitioning into becoming the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Oro Valley (or Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Oro Valley - Tucson North) . There may be some confusion of this hotel with other hotels with similar names which are also on Oracle Road, so let me be clear that the hotel I am referring to is located at 11075 North Oracle Road in Oro Valley, AZ. (The new official Holiday Inn website compounds the confusion by giving the address as 11705 North Oracle Road, but hopefully this will be quickly corrected!).
The first thing I want to say is that there are some recent reviews with negative comments about the hotel being a "shambles" because of the transitioning to a Holiday Inn, or about some other inconveniences connected with the process. In my opinion, those reviewers might have tried to be more understanding of the circumstances. For myself, I can say that my month-long stay at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Oro Valley-Tucson North was very pleasant, and I have nothing but praise for the accommodations, the services, the amenities, and the employees; and the rate charged was very fair when compared with other hotels in the area.
The rooms were very clean, nicely furnished, spacious, and well-laid out. Soundproofing between rooms was very good, as was the lack of plumbing noises from adjacent rooms. A new wi-fi system was being set up when I first arrived, and there were a few minor glitches for a couple of days, but after that it worked better than the majority of hotels where I have stayed. The complimentary breakfast had a nice variety of items to meet the tastes of just about everyone -- yogurt, hardboiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, cinnabons, waffles, omelets, sausages, bacon, fruit, juices, coffee, and probably some other things I have forgotten.
All of the employees -- and I mean everyone from those at the desk, to those who conducted the daily housekeeping, to those who kept everything supplied at breakfast -- were very pleasant, polite, personable, and helpful. I would give the names of several of them, but to avoid leaving someone out inadvertantly I will just say thank you to all of them for making my stay so pleasant.
I would also like to commend Jim, the General Manager, for the fastidious work that he did in overseeing the changing over of the hotel to Holiday Inn specifications. He has a very good reason to be proud of his hotel, his employees, and all of the amenities which are available. There are many other things I have not mentioned which would appeal to people with different interests from mine (swimming pool, fitness room, etc), and I certainly recommend this property as a comfortable, pleasant, and hospitable place for anyone who may be staying in the Oro Valley area.
