“Sinalei - heavenly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

We stayed at Sinalei with friends in April 10, and following an earlier stay in May 09. This is a small locally owned resort with approx 30 rooms, in a lovely location, with top facilities & ammenities, lots of traditional Samoa details in the architecture, and beautiful grounds. There is something very special about the feel of the resort - luxurious but not over the top, attentive service - but not imposing, large enough to offer a full range of resort services, but small enough to ensure peace and privacy. For a relaxing holiday it is simply perfect!

The beachfront fales, and pier restaurant were affected by the Sept 09 Tsunami - and the resort was in it's 'soft re-opening' stage in April with reconstruction works set to make the resort even better than before! Completion was about 2 weeks away at the time of our stay, and management recognised this by reducing the cost of accommodation and food - we were more than happy! The new pier and pier restaurant/bar will be superb, and the spa complex comprising several small fales overlooking the lagoon is much more accessible/central than it was previously. The shop and watersports fale now incorporates a beach bar. We didn't see the new beachfront fales but based on the quality of everything else at Sinalei expect that they will be lovely. The resort have made an enormous investment/committment in rebuilding to this extent. Their message is that they need people to return to Samoa and the resort to assist their recovery - and having visited recently we strongly recommend anyone looking for a relaxing, tropical holiday to put Sinalei top of their list!

We stayed in a garden view room, which is the most basic room category. It was comfortable, and tastefully decorated. Despite being a 'garden view' fale we had a good view of the ocean. The ocean view, ocean front, presidential & executive villas offer higher standards of accommodation again. A lot of care and pride in the resort is taken by management and staff, evident from their attention to detail, constant grooming of the gardens, and friendly service, etc.

We hope to return to Sinalei again soon. Thanks to all the wonderful staff - and to Sose, Joe & their family for creating and sharing this heavenly place!

We have just returned from a fantastic honeymoon at Sinalei Resort - we were wowed by the beauty of the resort, the friendliness of the staff and fell in love with Samoa. The food was brilliant, service just perfect (the right level of friendliness and attentiveness) and the location is magic! The choices - a massage, a walk along the white sand beach or to sit by the pool and drink cocktails. The new waterside restaurant opened while we were there - magic views of the water and a fantastic setting. We were inspired by the reopening of the resort and congratulate them on that achievement. We can't wait to go back again one day and would recommend it to everyone who is looking for a relaxing island retreat at a boutique resort. Fafatai Sinalei, thank you for an amazing experience and we hope to see you soon.

This was our second trip to Samoa, and we booked Sinalei with their post tsunami re-opening specials. We stayed in a garden view fale (the beach front fales were still being rebuilt) with AC, and a lovely enclosed outdoor bathroom. The room was immaculate and very comfortable, with a great view over the pool and down to the Sea. The staff is fabulous, freindly, and attentive. The beach is beautiful, and the water sports men very helpful. It is an easy kayak trip to a fresh water estuary. We had booked Sinalei for 1/2 our stay, and Virgin Cove for the other half. After one MISERABLE night at Virgin Cove, we called Sinalei and begged them to let us come back. They were already fully booked, but went out of their way to help us find other accommodation until they could fit us in. We'll never stay any place else in Samoa.

We visited sinalei in march expecting it not yet to be opened , but were pleasently surprised when we were welcomed in and stayed for lunch. We then discovered that although not officially opened untill april 1st they were opening some rooms ( garden rooms for a discounted rate) we were over the moon! So boooked to stay for 2 nights! The service is amazing, you are greeted with cool face towels and complimentry cool teas.
we had previously stayed at sinalei in a beachfront fale ( in 2005) this time we stayed in a garden fale. The rooms have lovely views to the ocean, all have air con, nice outdoor shower.
The resort was undergoing major reconstruction, down on the water rebuilding the jetty and the resturant on the water, new beachfront fales are being built, this time they will have air con, they look like they will be amazing- but i wouldnt expect anything less from sinalei. Around the pool area, below it going down towards the ocean they are constructing fales that will become the new "Spa" it looks fantastic, and i can't wait to see how it all turns out. They are also rebuilding the watersports office.
The top half of the resort was spared damage from the tsunami so the gardens are still beautiful, pool area stunning, and harry's bar and the main resturant all as they were.
We enjoyed amazing service from the best staff anywhere, they are all so friendly, so proffesional and attentive. you feel very pampered dinning at sinalei. The food was of a very high quality and the prices were reasonable.
we loved our stay at sinalei, although the gardens rooms arn't as amazing as the beachfront fales, its the resort -the staff, the experience of sinalei that makes this place so special.

I have been to Bali 8 times so we thought we would try some where different. Compared to Bali Samoa is expensive. We stayed at Aggies (airport ) resort for 6 nights and did not like it at all. The staff weren't friendly, they were just going through the motions in the fia fia, the food was crap and really expensive. We thought about changing our flights and going home. But we had already paid a deposit for Sinalei. We are so glad we went to Sinalei, it was like 2 totally different holidays! We stayed at Sinalei for 5 nights. The food was a bit cheaper and so much nicer. The staff were lovely. The fia fia was fantastic. The restaurant on the pier was magic at night. Even the snorkelling was better! Went to the spa, had a beautiful drink after my treatment. The breakfast was a highlight. The drinks and fruit were there to help yourself but they made your pancakes/eggs etc to order..so fresh and yummy. A special thanks to Kim in the office, the lady in the shop who sold us ice creams every afternoon (who was fab in the fia fia ) and Manu in the restaurant on the pier and the friendly dog!

It was a wonderful place to stay! Great food, beautiful scenery and lovely accomodation.

Downsides:
We stayed in a room over the water which was incredible but as it was open air it had some serious mozzies!

Upsides:
Loved the outdoor shower and pool area.
Husband liked the snorkelling and close proximity to an awesome waterfall for swimming - just caught a taxi and paid for them to wait for us.
Turtles in the lagoon!

We spent three nights here just before the terrible tsunami. Hopefully Sinalei can rebuild fairly quickly as this is a lovely spot for a relaxing, romantic break. We understand most of the accommodation and facilities were reasonably undamaged.
We had a fantastic time. The resort grounds, pool and beach area are just lovely - we particularly enjoyed the extensive and lush gardens, full of tropical flowers.
We had an ocean-view fale (one of the two brand-new ones) which had two large rooms with air-con, and a fantastic bathroom with a great shower and lovely hand-made toiletries. Staff were laid-back and friendly and service was a little casual a couple of times, especially at the spa, but nothing too annoying. We'd definitely recommend a session of traditional Samoan massage at the onsite spa.
The food was pretty good with a menu changing daily, and reasonably priced, given it's a resort - although one night virtually all the seafood dishes on the menu were imported New Zealand fish, which was a bit disappointing. The island food served at the buffet on the fiafia night was very good and the fire dancing was amazing - there aren't many places around where you'll see a six-year-old girl twirling fire sticks while standing on the shoulders of two men doing the same!
My only gripes would be that the snorkelling directly off the resort is pretty average, especially compared with places like Lalomanu, but the sandy part of the beach is just lovely and the loungers are great! We also felt it was a bit pricey for what we received, but we did book late and pay rack rate. We've seen advertised much cheaper flights + stay packages which would be excellent value.
