We stayed at Sinalei with friends in April 10, and following an earlier stay in May 09. This is a small locally owned resort with approx 30 rooms, in a lovely location, with top facilities & ammenities, lots of traditional Samoa details in the architecture, and beautiful grounds. There is something very special about the feel of the resort - luxurious but not over the top, attentive service - but not imposing, large enough to offer a full range of resort services, but small enough to ensure peace and privacy. For a relaxing holiday it is simply perfect!
The beachfront fales, and pier restaurant were affected by the Sept 09 Tsunami - and the resort was in it's 'soft re-opening' stage in April with reconstruction works set to make the resort even better than before! Completion was about 2 weeks away at the time of our stay, and management recognised this by reducing the cost of accommodation and food - we were more than happy! The new pier and pier restaurant/bar will be superb, and the spa complex comprising several small fales overlooking the lagoon is much more accessible/central than it was previously. The shop and watersports fale now incorporates a beach bar. We didn't see the new beachfront fales but based on the quality of everything else at Sinalei expect that they will be lovely. The resort have made an enormous investment/committment in rebuilding to this extent. Their message is that they need people to return to Samoa and the resort to assist their recovery - and having visited recently we strongly recommend anyone looking for a relaxing, tropical holiday to put Sinalei top of their list!
We stayed in a garden view room, which is the most basic room category. It was comfortable, and tastefully decorated. Despite being a 'garden view' fale we had a good view of the ocean. The ocean view, ocean front, presidential & executive villas offer higher standards of accommodation again. A lot of care and pride in the resort is taken by management and staff, evident from their attention to detail, constant grooming of the gardens, and friendly service, etc.
We hope to return to Sinalei again soon. Thanks to all the wonderful staff - and to Sose, Joe & their family for creating and sharing this heavenly place!
