I emailed directly to Tanoa and enquired about the cost of the rooms, I actually got a good deal that was cheaper than the website for a weekend stay, Friday, Saturday, check out Sunday. This is a good tip rather than booking via the website. My only comment is that they night supervisor quoted me a price, I confirmed and locked in my booking, and the next morning the day manager quoted me another price, slightly higher than the night managers quote. I thanked her and said that the night manager has already sorted out my booking.
I only choose to stay here as my hotel of preference Amanaki, was fully booked until Sunday.
When I arrived the reception staff were very welcoming, the receptionist actually picked up that they had booked me into a double room (only needed a king size bed) and she fixed that up fast and effectively.
The room was clean, spacious. The only thing I found was I couldn't use the safe as there were no instructions of how to reset the previous password used by the previous guests.
As a frequent traveller to Samoa and around the world, I know that costs for food and drinks at hotels can be expensive, this is common with every hotel internationally so don't blame Tanoa for their prices. I chose to eat out in town, however I did invite friends who are based in Apia to the hotel bar to catch up and have a few drinks and we all enjoyed our time at the bar.
Tanoa is a nice hotel, and like I said, I already have my hotel of preference when I travel to Samoa.
My only advice to Tanoa management is, you need to focus on customer care, it's the little things that people remember and what will make people come back to stay with you again. Going that extra mile for the customer. Two examples, while the young man was helping me with my bag, I told him that I have 2 other friends who checked into Tanoa 2 days ago, I gave him their names, and asked when he gets back to the reception, can he find out and then call me to let me know so I can let me friends know I've checked in. 45mins later, I go back down to reception, he totally forgot and apologised.....there was no language barrier as I spoke Samoan to him, no big deal, but paying attention to deal and doing what you say you're going to do.
Example 2. My friends and I were waiting for the rest of our group who arrived that morning to pass through to pick us up from Tanoa to move to our next destination. We waited for about 40 mins in the foyer after checking out. There were a few staff at reception, but not 1 of them asked where we were off to next, how were were getting there, do we need help or any assistance getting there? Of course we didn't, but it's the little details that people remember.
Your hotel is a very good hotel, but it could be a great hotel, just need to take it to that next level.
Wishing you and your staff every success.
