“A real holiday in paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We are a family of four and we had an absolute ball here. We stayed with another family from Gisborne, N.Z. The Resort far exceeded my expectations & I truly felt like I was having a real holiday, no cleaning, dishes etc. The only main stressor being what cocktail to have each evening by the pool! I love how it was a smaller boutique type resort and therefore the numbers staying were small, but enough to have the company of others if desired. Great accommodation, the aircon was a very welcome addition, very private the way they are set out. Wonderful staff, very gracious, beautifully turned out, attentive without being intrusive.
Snorkelling out the front was a real winner with the kids, we snorkelled for hours! My boy keeps asking me "When are we going back mum?"

Room Tip: Carry plenty of Samoan Tala on you, for all the attractions you may see around Savaii

We spent a week travelling all over Samoa, both Upolu and Savai'i, and this place was unforgettable. Easily the best food in the country, and excellent service! The restaurant offers an excellent view of the ocean from a very well-built upscale fale, and the server who sang through most of the meal was welcoming and attentive with a great sense of humour. Some of us had more traditional Samoan food while others had standard fare. The Samoan food was best, but it was all good.

We stayed 3 nights in Savaii and choose this resort as it was highly recommended. Some pro's and con's:

Pro:
- nice snorkel and diving spot
- one super friendly staff (older man with golden tooth). He really made the stay a bit more enjoyable
- dinner/lunch is good
- Thursday cultural night was very amusing

Con:
- most of the staff were not always friendly and often did not understand proper English to serve clients.
- breakfast was disappointing. Always same fruit and for anything else you paid extra
- no sun lounges at the pool
- for that price, you expect perfection not average quality

Le Lagoto is simply divine! The staff are the most wonderful people and as soon as we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. It was our honeymoon and to celebrate it at a place like this was like being in heaven - we loved everything about our stay here!

We had a beach front fale... literally 2m from the most perfect water! We started everyday with a swim, and snorkeled most days too (TIP: BYO snorkel so you can enjoy this everyday too! Or you can hire from Olaf over the road at the dive shop).

There isn't much to do here other than relax and take in the serenity of being in such a lovely country and environment - perfect for honeymooners! We walked through some of the local towns and all the locals were very friendly and welcoming too.

TIP: do the 'walking tour' with June (the bar man from the resort next door). He takes you to his local home/hut and teaches you all about the local flora and how to make coconut milk. Although it was very hot and humid when we were there, this walk is well worth it.

The food is simple yet delicious; if you love sashimi, get the fresh tuna everyday like we did!

Our beach fale was and air-conditioned traditional style hut - very comfy.

We would like to thank the staff at Le Lagoto for making our stay truly amazing - THANK YOU!!

I think the best place to stay in Savaii. It is a gorgeous location, lots of sand as well as reef to explore. A little more substantial than a 'traditional' Fale with the feel of the local culture not lost. These Fales have a bit more protection and freedom to move if bad weather sets in. Great building style inside, beach front, awesome space, rooms, people, location, beach, restaurant and entertainment. And I couldn't forget the spa, the girl in there was from Fiji and she has magic hands and a beautiful demeanour.

Room Tip: Go the beachfront Fale, though the others are only 10 meters back from the beachfront ones.

It's hard to fault this place. The location is amazing, we loved being able to sit on the jetty at night and feed the fish, and being able to walk less than a minute to slip into the water for a snorkle.
Savaii is a fascinating place, one tip I would like to share with future travellers is to take plenty of small change/tala with you. We didn't really understand how it worked at the start but the individual villages own the beach, or the road, or the waterfall in their village and if you want to swim in it, drive on it, or take pictures of it chances are someone will be waiting to take 5 or 10 tala off you to do that and it is much easier if you have an abundant supply of smaller notes and not a whole lot of 20's and 50s that the bank has probably given you.
We highly recommend the snorkle trip over the road and discovered that there is some wonderful snorkelling to be had right in front of the resort, we had dabbled a bit ourselves but hadn't gone out far enough to see the best bits.
I would have no hesitation recommending LeLagoto, it's not cheap but after having such an awesome stay you will never regret the money spent.

Room Tip: Beachfront all the way
