We were a group of 3 cars (2 x Rav4's and 1 x Tuscon). We hadnt booked any accommodation prior to going to Savaii and just hoped for the best. My father is from the Village of Lano, so we just took a chance that there was room at Lauiula Beach Fales. We drove straight to Lano and met the owner just as he was leaving to take a family (from Hamilton, NZ) on tour of the island. A big group had just left that morning, which meant he could accommodate our 'one night stay', then we discovered that another big group was arriving the next morning...perfect timing I say! He quickly organised our fales and we drove off to swim with the turtles. On our return all the beds were made, mozzie nets up and water buckets at each entrance to the fales for getting sand off your feet. We snorkelled the beach and were sad to see, like in most other places in Samoa, that the coral was destroyed, even though there was plenty of fish to see.
For $70 tala per adult per night, and half price for children, we thought it pretty steep, until he told us that breakfast and dinner was included in the price, that made us smile. The food was delicious and filling. They were very friendly and accommodating ot our needs. My niece and nephew entertained everyone after dinner and then it was off to see my father's side of the family, in the local village.
The fales are clean and comfortable, they have lighting and power switches, to which our crowd used to plug in their laptops. The shower and toilet block wasnt too bad and the sound of waves didnt bother us at all, but the view the next morning was picturesque. Breakfast was your usual eggs, pancakes, etc. Would definitely like to go back.
