We did see the one bad review on this place in December before we went to Banos but decided to ignore it given how scandalous and exaggerated it was and so inconsistent with all other reviews; we are glad that we did! This person was far, far from the mark and is obviously not a traveler but just an uninformed tourist.
We stayed for 3-4 days camping in Pequeno Paraiso & loved the place. We found Sue & Mark incredible hosts and we loved the location, the big kitchen, common area, excellent food, lovely grounds etc. Their prior experience as overland travel guides across the Americas and in other continents also proved invaluable for us in planning the rest of our route down south, both Mark and Sue went out of their way to help us plan with this.
We found that PP is also well know with long-term and adventure travelers which makes it well worth the stay if you want to meet like-minded folks in the hosteria's agreeable common area.
As far as location, PP is not in the center of Banos but just some 15km away and a stone throw away from many trailheads (which is one of the things that we very much liked) There is regular and good bus service to Banos that you can grab just outside of PP and Mark and Sue also are very helpful to arrange taxi service if you need it (also quite affordable)
All in all, PP is a wonderful place to which we hope to return next time we're in Ecuador!
