“Don't bike, drive instead”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We chose to drive to the waterfalls with a guide and were glad we did. We passed several bike riders on the road and it was a pretty narrow pass. The route is very hilly and long so it did not look like bike riding would be fun. The cable cars along the way are a nice attraction and make sure you try sugar cane juice at one of the little booths or cafes along the way. They squeeze out the juice from the sugar can, add the juice of a whole mandarin lime, and you get a very refreshing drink. The falls are beautiful and the scenery great!

“Beautiful way to spend 3 hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

My girlfriend and I hired a taxi to drive us to all of the waterfalls. The scenery of the mountains along the way is beautiful. At the different cascadas you can take a ride on a cable held car that travels across the valley to get you closer to the waterfalls. When you get to the "Rio Verde" make sure you walk down the river to the spot where they charge you a dollar to go further. This trail takes you to the top of the most spectacular waterfall. You stay on the trail and you can cross a suspension bridge and walk down steps that are adjacent to the actual water. This was a spectacular thing to do. The taxi driver charged us $20.00 for a guided personal tour and the ride in the taxi. A must see and do if you are in Banos.

“full of adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

We were going to rent the bikes but decided to hire a taxi. He took us on a 3 hour tour for $20. Really nice guy, he took our pictures and hiked with us to the waterfalls. All along the way, there are zip lines and gondola type rides and even bungee jumping off a bridge. He pointed out wild orchids and waved to everyone along the way.

“If limited time...take a taxi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

If you are pressed for time, like we were, hire a taxi to take you to the biggest falls along the ruta de cascades. I didn't like the idea of riding the bike on this road- as many have noted here it can be dangerous. It worked out perfect for us to spend about 1-2 hours hiking at Pailon de Diablo and then went closer towards banos to the Manto de la Novia. We recommend riding the cable car (tarabita) at Manto de la Novia for a closer view of the waterfall. It cost $1 to ride the tarabita and is well worth it for the view.

“tour of the Cascadas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

In an open sided truck bouncing around narrow roads to see the falls and scenery is an experience to remember.
