“Family friendly-senior friendly-oh so inviting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Besides visiting family in Cuenca, the highlight of my trip to Ecuador was my stay at La Casa Verde. The owners, Doug and Rebecca and son, John, have and are building a place of love and care for their guests and the environment. The food is carefully prepared not to upset a U.S. digestive tract - even the water is safe for ingesting. I had wonderful conversations with other guests. The hostel is within walking distance of the hot springs (just watch for timing, they are not always open). Far enough away from the hustle of Banos, but close enough for a quick and cheap cab ride to town (always negotiate the price before you choose the driver- I paid anywhere from $1.50 to $2. I will definitely return to Banos (my second trip) and I will stay at La Casa Verde.

Room Tip: Choose any room; however I chose the corner room on the second floor. Great view of the mountains an...

We stayed at the hostel for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. High quality, clean basic rooms with a good shower and toilet.

The owners are very knowledgable and helped us plan our onward journey as both Doug and Rebecca have travelled extensively through South America.

Breakfast was excellent - Tea, Coffee, Juice, bread, fruit, cerial, tomato, avacado and Vegemite!
They have a communial fridge, well stocked with beers at a reasonable price and the kitchen is available to cook your own meals.

No safe deposit box, but we were assured "There's no-one to steal anything!"

WiFi was good and available in the bedroom.

The hostel is a short walk from the town (20 minutes)) or a taxi cost just $1.50.

Banos is a great place to visit with reasonable hikes and of course, the hot springs to relax in after.

We would thoroughly recommend this hostel :)

We stayed in Casa Verde in the winterholiday (july 2013) with our 3 children. Doug and his family really make you feel at home. Our children loved to play with their son John in the whole house :)
The rooms are nice and practical; we were happy to leave the children in their beddies and we could take a cold beer downstairs. The breakfast and cooking is absolute the best we had in Equador. We would love to come bacxk again some time.

We stayed for a week at La Casa Verde and were sad to leave. The Hostel feels more like a home and the hosts Rebecca and Doug certainly make you feel welcome. The property is well situated overlooking the river that runs through Banos. The sound of the river at night is very soothing and the views we had from our room at the corner of the building were great.
The room itself was spacious, nicely decorated and the bed was large and so comfortable! We had such great nights sleeps there. The bathroom was also of a decent size and the showers nice and warm.
As many have said before me, the breakfasts at La Casa Verde are tasty and Rebecca and Doug even organised for us to have pancakes on our last day which was a nice touch.
We ate alot of our other meals at night at La Casa Verde as well and found them to be enjoyable.
Overall, I cannot fault our stay here, all the staff (not just Rebecca and Doug) are friendly and I know when we return to Ecuador we would happily come and stay here again.
I would also recommend organising a trip to Puyo with Oswaldo. He was excellent and it was the highlight of our day time activities in the area (Rebecca and Doug can assist with this).

We stayed here three nights and I would come back in a flash if we are ever in Ecuador again. It's a short and inexpensive taxi ride from town (or a pleasant 15 minute walk) and so avoids the congestion of being in town without the downside of being too far away from the action. It is quiet, clean, and extremely comfortable. The breakfast is first-rate and plentiful. The owner's are a delight and are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed every minute of our stay - and Banos is a wonderful place. Don't miss it.

I stayed here 5 nights last week and it was the perfect ending to my 3 week holiday. I will definitely return!

The scenery is stunning and I get the sense that every room has a great view; mine definitely did. My room was very well appointed - a comfortable bed, plenty of space to put my luggage/gear, a spacious tiled bathroom with hot water (yay!), and a number of small thoughtful details that make a room comfortable. I also enjoyed the local art used to decorate my room and the common rooms. Breakfast is included; each morning there was a good selection of items from which to choose, and all were freshly baked, squeezed, cut, brewed, etc (yum!). Other meals are also offered for a very reasonable price and I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner I ordered. The common spaces, both inside and out, are inviting, comfy, and great places to meet other travelers or just chill out with a book while enjoying the scenery. The owners/hosts are a lovely, very friendly family. They know alot about the area and things to do and are happy to share that with guests. And they accomplish all of the above with an inspiring commitment to ecological sustainability which they put into practice.

Banos is great and this place makes it even better. The outside may look a bit confusing at first, but this is a lovely hotel/hostel for solo travellers, couples, families and basically anyone. Well-equipped for a nice stay (great beds and you can have your own balcony and hammock to catch up on your reading; lovely owners - they really go the extra mile to make you feel at home, very relaxed atmosphere and they have a great breakfast with all sorts of lovely stuff). You can also enjoy their large collection of movies in the living room. It's situated on the outskirts of Banos but that's a good thing: it's quiet, the view over the river is great and you can walk or take a cab to the burstling town in no-time. Surroundings are great. You'll want to stay forever: we spent a couple of additional nights. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: River side
