Trusting in the reputable Condé Nast Johansen we never think twice making a reservation to celebrate our anniversary in this hotel. I called from USA several times to make sure that the suite be decorated and filled with flowers for my wife. We are accustom to have these special detailes from hotels recommended by the Condé Nast. Every phone call a different person was in charge and none of them were aware of the occasion and our simple demand. By the time we arrived at the hotel by accident we confused the reception with the offices. Nobody, help us with the luggage neither welcome by the time of arrival. The person at the front desk never explained the surroundings, services, spa, breakfast or dinner times. A person who was not sure were the suite was located took us to a different room to realize later that ours was in the other building. Finally, aftershave our arrival there were not flowers except for the two dried roses in a small vase next to the chimney. The decoration is fine and according with the overall enrinoment but nothing special or unique for " the best suite". The bathroom had a jacuzzi that required two steps with a two feet gap entrance and the faucet and controls located in the opposite corner. Dark and dirty. The room had several big flies dead in the floor and some others flying around. Probably, due to the old fruits piled in a plate like a "basket of fruits" a brown banana, brown small apple and three green clementines. We were exhausted with the long trip and decided to get something to eat. The food in the restaurant was fine. Nothing special. By the time we finished we expressed our disappointment to the people at the front desk. We also comment about the horrible dead flowers in the reception area. They apologized and asked us to wait until the problems with the flies and the flowers were corrected. 30 minutes later the room was "ready". Rose petals were decorating the bed in the shape of a heart. Cheese but little bit better. The jacuzzi was filled to the half with tons of rose petals. Way too much!! We asked for someone to prepare the chimney and also to bring ice with two glasses for champagne. It was not our first time ordering champagne in Ecuador and getting "sparkling wine" so we got our own Moët Chandon. 20 minutes later the phone rings with someone letting us know that the ice will be charged to the room by $8,00 plus 20% of taxes and services.... FUNNY! I just asked for the ice and not for the price but anyway the ice arrived with two glasses for red wine. The stand for the ice can't stand alone so it had to lean to the wall. We were still waiting for someone to fix the chimney. My wife was freezing the room was so cold. I called again looking for the person to start the chimney. Exactly 43 minutes later the guy with the "wood" showed up. A pile of wet pieces of wood with bended rusted nails of something that sometime was part of a window or maybe a door. He also brought an electric heater. After other 15 minutes he started the chimney and finally left. I decided to prepared the jacuzzi but just getting to the opposite corner was a challenge. I rolled my pants up the only water available was cold. I thought that it would take a couple minutes to get hotter but nothing happened. Walking between this pile of dirty petals that make the water nasty with old insects and dirt it was already turning this in an awful experience. By the time I was ready to called the reception again the room was full of smoke. My wife was asleep and I got in panic thinking that she had been intoxicated with the smoke. I woke her up opened windows and door and called the front desk. This was enough !! By the time someone from the front desk showed up the bathroom was pouring water from a faulty faucet and malfunction of the jacuzzi itself. We just pick up our stuff and run out of that place in the middle of the night. We were lucky to find a wonderful real suite at the nearby LUNA RUNTUN where we were very well received that served immediately with a personal attention.
I won't recommend to anybody the Samary Hotel and I personally express my disappointment with the Condé Nast.
