“Save your money--go elsewhere”

Las Hayas Resort Hotel

Dec 20, 2007

It's the rate that kills me for the hotel it is--USD $275 a night. Beds need replacing and the wallpaper in the good-sized rooms is a bit disorienting. To add insult to injury, you pay USD $1 for each little bottle of water you consume in your room. Staff tries hard but they're on par with the Red Roof Inn. Management does not seem to invest in making this a hotel par excellence.

    • Liked — turn down service
    • Disliked — the cheapness of it all--shower curtain was flimsy, kleenix is rationed, beds are uncomfortable, spa needs a major overhaul with staffing

Stayed a few nights in this hotel while on a tour with a group in Argentina. Good location on a hillside overlooking Ushuaia. Walking to downtown 15 minutes. Very nice rooms and nice hotel overall, but depending on which room, weekends can be troublesome because of a disco or night club in the neighbourhood. Noisy. Nice breakfast buffet and attentive and friendly staff.

I totally agree with the last review - this is definitely NOT a 5-star hotel, and maybe there are better alternatives in Ushuaia. The carpeting is old, decoration is completely old fashioned (think plexiglass and brass put together); there is no minibar in the room - a tray holding 2 sodas and 2 bottles of water accounts for it. If you want these cold, you need to ask staff to bring you some ice. The breakfast buffet leaves a lot to be desired, specially if compared to any 4 (not 5...) star hotel.
On the good side, the rooms are spacious and quiet, and so is the bathroom; everything seems pretty clean, though old. The view from the room is spectacular (see photo), and the El Martial glacier is at walking distance (20 mins). Staff is a plus-plus -very friendly and helpful, from the desk attendant to the bar and restaurant waiters. The restaurant, El Martial, is quite good, and not overpriced. If I ever went back to Ushuaia, I would consider other options, but would not discard going back there again.

“Definitely not 5-star”

This is definitely not a 5-star hotel. Staff is very friendly, the view is very nice but.... * do two cans of coke without a fridge on the room * really old fashioned design of the rooms * really nothing special in the rest of the service add up to this price?!
Hotels like this can only survive with a price like this when there is little competition. Hotel is also 10 min by taxi out of town. But because of that you have the nice view. A personal preference yes or no.

“Lovely Old Hotel Stunning View of Harbor”

Las Hayas Resort Hotel

Feb 27, 2007

The Las Hayas (The Beeches) hotel is situated high on a hill just outside of town with a stunning view of the harbor and mountains.
It is easily the finest hotel in Ushuaia and the manager is both affable and helpful.

the rooms are clean if somewhat staid as is the rest of the hotel

The included buffet breakfast is standard but not exceptional

The hotel will not change currency, all such transactions must be carried out in town at either a crowded exchange office or bank.
Taxi fares from the hotel to the town center are quite low (about two dollars)

Only one bathrobe is supplied per room but another may be ordered from housekeeping.

There is a fitness center and an excellent massage at the center.
