“Convenient and very pleasant suites”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

This quiet hotel is at one end of Ushuaia's main drag making it very convenient to restaurants and shopping. These are real suites with a separate bedroom and windows in each room. There is a kitchenette. Really quite modern and pleasant considering you are at the end of the world.

This was the third hotel we stayed in for successive nights and it is perhaps the one I would choose if I wanted a hotel for a base. The lounge was comfortable, they had a pool, and there was not a feeling of beng cramped. Our room we had was good and was quite large but was not quite sound-proof from the noisy cars at night - however, that is a problem with most hotels in the town. The bed a bit firm but the room was clean. Beakfast was adequate. The staff were helpful, especially the desk clerks. If I knew I would have to spend some time in a hotel and not feel trapped in a room, I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back if you want a quieter room

We spent one day in Ushuaia trying to see as much as possible. Therefore, we did not spend much time at the hotel. We had a suite on the first floor just as pictured on the website and described by others. The breakfast was fine, the internet was fast, and lobby staff helpful and gave excellent directions and provided a good map. I did not use the spa, but my friend did and reported it was very nice although the attendant was not excited about keeping it open until the official closing hour. We were part of an OAT tour group, so can not comment on price or value. The rooms were fine. The restaurants, ice cream options, and museums plus the lovely setting all make Ushuaia a great place to visit. We walked everywhere.

Room Tip: Close the hall door to the lobby if you are in one of the first floor suites.

My husband and I stayed at Cilene before heading out on a tour. Although we did not pay for our stay, we would recommend Cilene if the price is right. All the rooms are suites, with basics for cooking and ample space. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We appreciated the hot breakfasts and delicious pastries. It's located at the edge of town, close to the Maritime Museum and the pier. Don't worry about the outside. the inside is welcoming. We'd stay there again in a minute.

Pretty ugly hotel on the outside. Our room had a combination small kitchen on one wall & a living room. Also had a small separate bedroom with 2 twins. Everything was clean, but there were a few stains. If you stay on the street side it gets noisy, but the back side facing the water has a barking dog. Hotel has free computers and WiFi in your rooms, which is really nice. People at the front desk were nice.

We stayed two nights at the Cilene del Faro Suites & Spa in January 2012. The little suites offer everything you could need for a great holiday in Ushuaia. The main room of the suite has a microwave, hot plates, refrigerator, and dishes with utensils. The bathroom was standard and the bedroom was rather small, but with the other room of the suite it really didn't matter. There was good WiFi in the room at no charge. The breakfast was standard in the basement for most hotels in Argentina. The eggs were a little dry, but nice breads, cereal, and yogurt with a pot of coffee at your table. Of course fresh fruit was provided. There was a very nice water view from the room. It was close to town and only a couple of blocks from a grocery store (up 2 blocks and left 1 block). The hotel offered all spa with no charge except they of course charged for massage.

LOCATION - Cilene del Faro is a 3-star aparthotel located on the fringe of downtown Ushuaia, only half a block off the main drag of San Martin, and half a block from the bayfront. It is an easy walk to anywhere downtown, the location is excellent. There are a couple of resto-bars even within a block, but mostly expect to walk 2-4 blocks to get to the places you want to go. The navy is next door, and several museums. You can walk to the cruise pier, but even the closest hotels you'll want a taxi. Only a couple dollars anywhere in Ushuaia. We walked everywhere but the cruise pier in our 6 day stay.

ROOMS - There are several levels of regular rooms and also serviced apartments. We stayed in an apartment, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and big windows with lots of views of the bay and the navy. The apartments are not as nice as the website makes them look - strictly 3-star quality with a few upgrades - but were quite spacious. The bathrooms are in need of renovation and smell strongly of mold (no ventilation) - something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to mold. The use of shower curtains probably makes it worse.

The bedrooms are average sized with plenty of storage, and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped but a coffee maker doesn't do you much good without any coffee, so plan to hit the store if you want to make use of the kitchen at all. The TV is too small for the living room, and there is minimal place to sit to watch it. There is no TV in either bedroom. There is a good sized kitchen table but no desk so we worked at the kitchen table which worked fine. There is no iron and the hair dryers are the vacuum style ones built into the wall. The toiletries are a joke - bring your own. The cleaning supplies they use are perfumed and very potent, make sure to open windows.

We were moved to the Presidential Suite when the smell of mold got too much for our allergies (a complimentary upgrade since all the other rooms were full). It was a lot nicer, with TV in the very large bedroom, a large and ventilated bathroom, and nicer amenities and toiletries. They want some three times what they want for an apartment though - it's certainly not worth $800 a night - but it is quite a bit nicer. Large balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedroom (but no furniture on the balcony). Badly stained chairs need reupholstered. A nice place overall to stay for several nights, if only the price were more reasonable.

FOOD - There is no restaurant or bar in the hotel, but after trying the breakfast that's probably a good thing. It's as basic as it gets - cereal, croissants, ham & cheese, toast, apple cocktail and scrambled eggs. That's it. Terrible coffee, nearly nonexistent service. We ate there a couple days, went out for breakfast the rest, even though it was included.

BUSINESS - There is free wi-fi throughout the hotel which worked well. There are a couple of computers you can use too. I think that's about it - no desks in the apartments even. There are phones.

STAFF - The front desk staff were a delight. So helpful, so friendly and nice. The real highlight of this hotel. The arranged restaurants for us, taxis, recommended things to do, helped us with the room change, all with a smile and never a problem. There is no bell service though, so prepare to haul your own bags up and down in the elevators.

AMENITIES - There is a decent indoor swimming pool and a spa. Wi-fi for your laptop and a couple computers to use. That's pretty much it. Breakfast room, no restaurant or bar.

Overall, the Cilene del Faro was a good spot to stay for 6 days. Plenty of room (in a city of tiny rooms), comfortable, nice views, good staff, good location. Nothing fancy - 3 star stuff - and the bathrooms certainly need to be renovated and some care to replace some of the stained furniture. They need better toiletries and perhaps a starter pack of coffee would be nice. Strange to have no TV in the bedrooms. Expensive for what it is, but that seems standard in Ushuaia, and the place was fully booked every day, so...overall a good stay, just bring allergy medicine.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the bay. Presidential Suite not worth the money, but nice. All the rooms are ide...
