“Solid, but noise an issue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014 via mobile

Nothing fancy about this hotel, but location is very good, service is friendly, and rooms are solid. The only issue we had was that there is an annoying rooster which lives nearby that starts its 'wake up call' at around 5:30am which woke us up both nights we stayed there. Perhaps it would be better if one stayed in a street facing room instead of the courtyard facing room we had?

A very pleasantly appointed hotel. Good location close to the main streets. The reception, lounge area, dining room all nicely decorated and furnished, there is a lovely atmosphere in the hotel. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine, the usual choices, though on our last morning the hot option (scrambled eggs) was off the menu. We were told there was no-one on duty able to cook them!? Take care not to take anything for lunch! There are clear signs banning such tactics; one embarrassed lady had to empty her swag bag when spotted by the eagle eyed supervisor shovelling cakes and a hastily made sandwich into her rucksack. On our tour of South America it was quite amusing watching the various tactics adopted to smuggle breakfast items. Heaven forbid! Well we have to admit to the odd apple.
Our double room was pleasantly furnished in keeping with the rest of the hotel, everything was there you would expect and everything worked. The major problem we experienced was dogs! (There is also the issue of so many dogs freely roaming the streets). Our lovely room (102) faced a neighbouring residential area where everyone had a dog kennelled outside at night. Consequently at various intervals, one dog would suddenly start barking to be joined by a chorus of others, not helped by single glazed windows. We stayed 3 nights and had repeated disturbances each night. We were surprised the hotel had not installed double or even triple glazing as it must be a perpetual problem for guests. It was the only blemish from our experiences at the hotel, but 3 nights of repeatedly disturbed sleep after tiring days is not good. If you are considering booking, specify a 'quiet' room if such a thing exists?

The hotel is ok to very good, breakfast is very good, you can walk to town and the staff was helpful in regards of activities in the surroundings, such as navigate the glaciars and trekking.
They help us out with the latter, including transportation. Rooms are comfortable. Recommended.

This hotel has everything you need in El Calafate. It is a short walk to the main road and has comfortable rooms. The breakfast is average. The worst part about this place is the rooster that lives next door. I'm not kidding. As soon as the sun comes up, which is VERY early in the summer, he gets to work. It is loud, and will wake you up and keep you awake. If it wasn't for the rooster, I would recommend the place. But on the off chance it is still there, I would book a different hotel.

Room Tip: The rooster that lives next door is loud and will keep you awake.

Nice staff, comfortable room, great breakfast, good location. Wifi barely worked inside the room, had to go into hallway but the hotel also gives you access to 2 (older) computers. But overall a very nice place to stay.

This hotel is very conveniently located in the town but that is about all! The staff were not very helpful and in fact pretty clueless about the surrounding attractions and trips on offer. We stayed over the easter wk end so by the time it came to leave all the cash machines in town were empty and we needed to get some cash from the reception in order to get our taxi to the airport - they charged us the most extortionate amount -i.e. over a 20% charge!!! Your hotel should be a safe haven not out to take advantage of you! Rooms and breakfast were also very average indeed.
