“Quaint & Interesting but not really value for $”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Paid a visit to this tiny museum when we were in El Calafate. It had 4 small rooms for display, all contained in a small house. There were explanations as to the formation of the patagonia area geography, fossil records and the indigenous people. Some replicas of documents, maps and hunting tools were there. Also, a short segment on the impact the settlers had on devastating the indigenous peoples.

All in all, an informative an interesting distraction for an hour or so. The drawback was the unexpected high entry fee... $48 argentine pesos for us foreigners! We love and support small local museums like this in general. Would've loved to give a higher rating, but the overly high entry fee was just a killer for us...

“Excellent historical overview--with English translation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Nicely done private museum with excellent overview of Patagonian history from dinosaurs to the present. Translations available in multiple languages, which was very helpful since so many other museums in Latin America are only in Spanish. You can also sample matte tea. Tasted like tobacco to us, so not planning on adopting this habit.

“Very friendly, with a personal welcome, and a really good guide to the background of this area from 50 million years ago to the”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We visited this museum on a wet day when we were trying to find out more about the area. It is a small but excellent museum. It specialises in two areas. Firstly from the era of the dinosaurs right up to the extinction of the huge South American mammals following the invasion of Homo sapiens from Asia. The second theme is the fate of the natives of Patagonia following European settlement - interesting, and moving. The 20th century economic history of the region is also briefly covered together with oppression of workers that the museum suggests foreshadowed later military regimes in the country. The owner is really friendly and welcoming. We speak little Spanish, but there is a folder that you are given with an interpretation of all the exhibits into English. We strongly recommend a visit.

“Don't miss this one!”

Excellent museum put together by a passionate and knowledgeable teacher who, because he opposes the corrupt government gets no publicity or help. Well worth a visit.
