“The main drag in El Calafate, you cannot avoid it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Our taxi driver informed us that Av del Libertador is the main street of El Calafate and he was right. The longish street is lined by mainly tourist shops and souvenir shops. There are a few banks with ATMs as well but your card may not work in all the ATMs. Virtually all the restaurants are on this street as well. If you don't want to eat at your hotel you will have to come here. Just about every restaurant will offer you Parilla, barbecued meat and it is an interesting sight on this street.

“Main street of El Calafate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is the primary street that runs through El Calafate. Here you can find a vast range of restaurants, tourist agencies, casino, toy museum, shops and the biggest supermarket. For cheaper eating try the side streets

“Overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

We were initially shocked by the beer price in the bars at the beginning of Av. del Libertador. El Calafate is a wonderful place, but it is best to avoid the first few hundread meters at the beginning of this main turist street. Once you get a bit to the side, El Calafate is very charming.

“main street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

This is the main street of El Calafate - lined with resturants and sovenigner shops. There is a really nice icecream shop too (I forget the name).
We ate at a few resturants and were pleasantly suprised (despite being vegeterian). Thankfully our broken spanish came in handy to explain no meat - no fish - no chicken :)

Argentina does not like its food spicy - so be prepared for non-picante (spicy) food throughout your stay.

“Your gateway to everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

This is the main avenue of the town, if you are visiting Calafate, you will pass by here fore sure. It offers tons of places to buy random things like sunscreen lotions, to thermal wear, to local souvenirs. I suggest taking a pass on buying souvenirs here as they are much cheaper at the airport, for example 39 pesos for calafate jam vs 17 pesos at the airport...

Also, the restaurants on the main avenue are good, however mostly tourist traps, if you look at the top ten on tripadvisor, all of the restaurants are located on the smaller and quieter streets. If you really want to get a more local feel for the place, I suggest deviating from this street.
