My wife and I had a horrible time staying here on our honeymoon. This hotel bills itself as a four star luxury hotel, and it looks that way when you enter, but in fact it is a total disaster playing to a captive audience (tourists on packages). The hotel itself is clean and our room was ugly but comfortable enough (although by no means luxurious -- like a solid Holiday Inn room) -- it is the hotel service and facilities that are a disaster. Hard to list them all: long wait at check in with only one person working the front desk, no concierge service (the same person checking in the long line answers calls, etc while checking people in) -- the airline had lost our bags, we asked at the front desk if they had arrived, were told no, only discover they had arrived after checking with the airline...and then that the hotel had misplaced one of them, asked the reception to change our dinner reservation at the hotel restaurant...they said they would and didn't ... the dinner at the restaurant was horrible -- the worst dinner we had in Argentina and the most expensive -- with family style seating btw which we weren't told ...but the biggest joke was the "spa/pool" . The spa looks great -- like a real functioning spa.. We were shown a full spa menu and made appointments on Christmas day for long treatments. We reconfirmed the day before...only to arrive on the day on find that the spa had forgotten to call the person in who was to handle my treatments. My wife's manicure was given by someone who clearly had never given one before with unsterilized instruments (took an hour) -- and even the massage itself was the worst ever in a tiny hot room with no ventilation. Checked with other guests who confirmed that no matter what type of massage you ordered from the spa menu (reflexology, pressure, etc) it seemed you got the same one. It is like the hotel management studied what a real spa looked like and copied their menu, and then just gives the same treatment no matter what you order. No offer was made to comp any part of my wife's treatment to compensate for mine not happening btw... The pool and hot tubs look amazing ...but they were filthy. The three hot tubs, with "various levels of hotness" were never turned on and heated despite repeated requests over two days ("I will call the boy who turns them on" we heard maybe ten times) -- didn't matter bc the water in them was filthy. Room service food was disgusting (seriously it is HARD to have a bad meal in Argentina). Messages left for other guests were never passed on. This hotel is BAD NEWS. Almost everyone who stays here is on a two or three day package through an agency to see the glaciers so if you stay here DO NOT pay the listed price of $220/night...everyone else is staying for much less. If this hotel did not pretend to be a full service four star hotel, we would not have been as upset. There is a desperate need for a real service oriented hotel to open and position itself somewhere between hotels like Nos Nostros and the package tour hotels in Calafate... and end the fiction that the Posada is one of the best hotels in this town.
