“Excellent choice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2009

It's an excellent choice for people that like to enjoy a very good hotel. Rooms are not big but very comfortable. Service is very good also. I can mention (different from the other review) that I saw 2 and 3 persons in the front desk.
Restaurant is excellent. The best patagonic lamb I've ever teasted. Breakfast is also excellent!!!
Pool is not too big but almost nobody go there, so most of the time it's only for you!
And if you like golf, you can use it.
I didn't have the time, but

Having looked at some of the reviews about this hotel before traveling, I was very much looking forward to a 5 star experience.
To be fair, This may well be the best choice in El Calafate (dont know) but it is NOT a 5 star hotel.
On the positive side, the hotel is charming, and the location is great. Breakfast is decent.
On the negative side, rooms are small, carpet in the room is dirty and old and in desperate need of updateing, Bathrooms in the bedroom are small and old and getting moldy, shower not up to standard. No 5 star thrills here. Bedroom has old tv, mine came without a remote control. The hotel had one person working behind the desk, for a 5 star. El calafate only has few flights a day arriving in its airport. I can only assume that the hotel knows its schedule and could have people working at the desk in line with peak arrival times. Sadly this is not the case and you end up having groups of people waiting to be welcomed. Welcome in the hotel as a result is poor and impersonal, a case of a generic feeling in a form and getting a key. No welcome, no explanation of facilities.
The restaurant is OK, although some people to include some guides big it up. It is nothing special plus it is served in the same room breakfast is served in and at times feels a bit like a breakfast room. Food and service ok, but there are better choices within walking distance in the centere of El Calafate. One better choice is La Tablita. A great traditional parilla, very popular and has FANTASTIC patgonien lamb. (best i ever tasted) great value and good wine selection. If it is a choice of La Posta or La Tablita, make sure you go to La Tablita.
Overall, the hotel is ok, We did get a good night sleep, it is in a quiet street and when it comes down to it, you spend most of your day seeing the Glaciers or out and about. I think it is more of a guest house representing a 3/4 star level. NOT 5 star, for that rooms need to be cleaner, bigger, updated, more staff will be required.
As long as you dont have 5 star expections, you will not be too disappointed.

We stayed here for the third time and I can report that it's as good as ever: truly 5-star. Excellent and attentive service, great comfort, nice ambience. The breakfast buffet is superb, offering champagne, freshly cooked eggs, a vast variety of pastries, meats, dairy products, etc. You can even have steak and wine should you fancy it. This is a great hotel.

Reading the other reviews on this hotel, I would say that they were very fair.

We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is not a 5 star hotel, but worth 4. We had a few problems with the drains in the bathroom smelling, but they moved us straight away to a Junior Suite, without charge, and this was of a much higher standard.

The restaurant, which is over the road, was to a high standard, and I would particularly recommend the prawns.

The staff were helpful and pleasant, more than one could have asked for.

The size of the hotel does make for impersonality - there are two check in entrances it is so large. The paucity of computers for the numbers involved means that you have to queue for internet access.

My overall rating would be 3.5 if TravelAdvisor had that option. I would stay there again but it was not outstanding in any way.

A comfortable hotel in a good position close to the main town. We were allocated a room in the front of the hotel near reception and could not change it as the hotel was full. Unfortunately all the large tour buses park outside reception with their engines running. We were woken up very early in the morning with groups boarding buses for glacier tours and again late at night with returning groups. We had to keep windows tightly shut as all the fumes from the buses drift up into the rooms.
Apart from this the hotel is comfortable and the breakfast good. We had a meal there in the evening and it was excellent and reasonably priced.

This modern hotel has all you could want but somehow has a rather souless feeling. This is probably due in part to the size of the hotel. However, the reception staff were excellent and the rooms were clean and of a good size. Breakfast comprised of a good spread of breads, fruit, cereal and buffet style cooked food.

Bizarrely the hotel has two receptions which makes being collected for excursions a bit of a lottery.

El Calafate is a great little town with plenty of bars and restaurants. The hotel is an ideal place to explore the town from.
