“What a nice surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

We stayed here with our 5-year old son and this was such a nice surprise. The room is very comfy and big for a family like ours. Service was great! They did everything to help us in every way possible. They helped us find a good driver that took us to Perito Moreno. They also helped with dinner reservations and restaurant suggestions. We would go back anytime!

We traveled as a family with my wife's parents joining us. Stayed in their cottage out back with 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. The staff was incredible here - very responsive and attentive. The cottage was great. Very nicely appointed and comfortable. Rooms a bit small but that's to be expected in Argentina I think. They deliver breakfast to you at the time you specify and have extras if you need.

We arrived very late, about 10:30pm, and it was still light out. We hadn't eaten dinner yet and the staff told us about a local place a few blocks away that would deliver. Since we had a 4 year old with us we decided to do this and bathe her while we waited for the food. It was great.

The first night I didn't sleep well - the windows had no blackouts and it gets bright, very early in the morning, so I was up early. The next day after we got back from the glacier they had blackouts on the windows (I think someone forgot them the first night!) and we hadn't asked. I slept much better on the 2nd night.

The next day the staff had our breakfast ready on time as well as our lunch kits we ordered to take with us on our glacier mini-trekking tour. Everything was there exactly as promised. The day after, we did a half day estancia visit and had about 3 hours to kill between the end of that and our airport pickup and the staff allowed us to stay and hang out in the lobby during that time. They also were very kind and chatted with us and my in laws and made us feel welcome and at home. We even met the owner and she seemed very nice.

I'll definitely stay here again if I ever get lucky enough to go back to El Calafate. The weekend there was magical and I'll never forget it.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. Overall, it's a nice place, just a little far from the city center and restaurants.
The Pros:
-The staff is very accommodating, and it felt like everyone really wanted us to enjoy our stay
-Breakfast served in the morning
-Room was large and very clean and had a nice view of the lake
Other:
-The hotel is a pretty far walk from the center of town. On one hand, the isolation is nice (part of feeling like you're near the end of the world...), but it's a little too far to walk home from dinner. You can order dinner from retaurants in town and they'll deliver
-The walls are pretty thin and we could hear our neighbors.
-We ordered boxed lunches to take with us on our day trips. It was nice to have the option to order, but food wasn't very good

My wife and i stayed here in mid December. The rooms were fantastic. A full kitchen/dining room with a loft bedroom. The view was spectacular and we enjoyed eating breakfast at our own kitchen table every morning. It is a little far from town (5 minutes by taxi and about 20 min walk). The staff was friendly and helpful with any request. I'd gladly stay here again if we ever make it back to Calafate.

We stayed for two nights over the New Years holiday and had an excellent stay. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and we appreciated the extra space and the kitchenette. The staff was very helpful and kind, going out of their way to help us resolve a transportation issue. The breakfast is brought to your room or you can eat in the gallery just outside your door - a nice touch. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from town, which can seem like a long ways if the wind is howling, but a cab ride was inexpensive.

We stayed here for the short time on our trip around Argentina.
I wish I have spend here more time. Los Ponchos is very well run little hotel.
There is nothing bad to say about it. Customer service was excellent. Don't be afraid to ask them for recommendations what to do and they will call for you and reserve for you. All you have to do just show efectivo (cash).
Located just on the side of the downtown, easily accessible by taxi (20-25 min walk) that hotel will call for you. It cost about 50 pesos each way, which is nothing.
El Califate is wonderful little town with great restaurants and so many great souvenir shops.
Great place to spend 4-5 nights. So much to do besides Glaciers
Thank you staff of Los Ponchos
We had a great time

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at Los Ponchos. Marina, Carina, Leo and Natasha all did a fantastic job of making us feel welcome. They went above and beyond the call of duty with restaurant recommendations and securing reservations. The apartments are modern, with a couch and sleeper as well as kitchenette and bathroom downstairs. The main bedroom is upstairs. The hotel staff are helpful; the apartments serviced twice daily. While downtown is about a 20 minute walk,it is no more than a 5 minute ride by taxis which are in plentiful supply. Clean, comfortable and contemporary, we (family with 2 kids aged 8 and 10) have no hesitation in recommending Los Ponchos to those travelling with or without young kids.

Room Tip: All 8 rooms are lake facing.
