“Great birding in Calafate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

Very interesting birding site in El Calafate. We were very surprised to see Chilean Pink Flamingos. It does not seem to be a very well known attraction for visitors in Calafate, but it is definitely worth visiting.

“Truely nice place to enjoy nature!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We enjoyed out trip to the Laguna Nimez. Entry fee was 35 Arg.-$ and you can keep the ticket after your visit to come back for a second free visit, what we did. Walk along the marked trail and view a lot of birds, espcially the flamingos a worth an observation! You can also see a lot of flora and fauna of the surrounding region: for example the famous Calafate Bushes. The outlook to the Lago Argentino is great and you can leave the track there and stay a while at the beach of the lake. We had great weather and were enyoing ourselves a lot.

“If you don't like birdwatching, you will!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The trail is just a short walk, but you could spend hours watching all the different kinds of birds, among which flamingoes, ducks and various birds of prey. Even without birds, the place is really gorgeous, lying on a tiny portion of the Lago Argentino.

“Beautiful Lagoon With Interesting Birds In Scenic Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

We had an extra day in El Calafate, and we're so glad we did, because we got to spend a couple of hours at this beautiful lagoon! It's in a very scenic location, yet quick and easy to get to from the main street in town. We saw a big flock of Chilean flamingos in the middle of the lagoon, as well as Upland Geese, which, for some reason, are so much cuter than the Canadian geese that make their way through my home town every year. Lots of ducks, including the blue-billed ruddy duck, grebes, coots, Black-faced Ibises, caracaras, and hawks and eagles. Supposedly, the walk around the lagoon takes one hour, but it was just so pretty there, and we so enjoyed watching the splashing, flying and roosting birds, that it took us 2 1/2 hours to finish. Bring sunscreen and a warm jacket, along with your binoculars (although you can rent binoculars at the entrance too) and a snack! The entrance fee was USD $7 (or $35 Argentinian pesos).
