If you are looking for a down-to-earth place to stay in El Calafate. Look no further.

Located about 2 minutes away from the city centre and 5 minutes from the lake and kind of a bird sanctuary, this place is perfect to enjoy the city without breaking your wallet.

Speaking of wallet, I realized I didn't have my wallet (with money and documents) right before boarding my plane. The plane was about to leave so I didn't have time to do much.

I contacted the people at Che Lagarto and asked them to please call the cab they had booked for me and the last store where I had purchased some last moment gifts.

I boarded the plane very stressed and anxious.

When I arrived at Buenos Aires, I called the hotel and they had the wallet! They sent it right away to Buenos Aires via express mail. All money and documents were there!

Anyway, if you are planning on going, do give Che Lagarto a chance. You won't regret it!

We Stayed in a double room, really comfy, big and modern. Nice bathroom, very new, awesome shower!
Breakfast is basic but ok and fine for a hostel.
It 3 min walk to main street where most shops and restaurants are.
Staff is really great!
The lounge areas are nice, there is a bar and restaurant, prices are good and it tasted nice too (restaurants in this town are quite expensive).
Really enjoyed our stay.

We were there a long time ago, so I can't comment on the recent reviews, but when we were there the noise was under control. We stayed in a private room with a private bathroom and it was one of the best rooms we've ever had in a hostel. They were all very friendly and helped us arrange a tour to the Pareto Moreno glacier. However, their restaurant recommendation wasn't very good, it was some place where a driver had to pick us up to get to, and it took forever with very disappointing payoff. Just eat in the area, there are some great restaurants right down the road!

the moment we checked in we were greeted with smiley friendly staff. they gave us the cheapest rates to view perito moreno. we shopped around and still they were true to their word... the cheapest...they assisted us in getting to el chalten and then to bariloche the easiest and cheapest way possible. the staff got to know us and we amazed that we were from Kenya. great value for money

Room Tip: all the rooms are good to be quite frank.

Stayed here a couple of nights in one of the private rooms. I came here to see the Perito Moreno Glacier and this hostel is an ideal base to explore the surrounding region.

Room was clean and neat and good value for what I paid. Bed was comfortable. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. I had half a day to kill at the end and they suggested horseriding so I thought I'd have a go. Turned out to be superb fun. I have no hesitation in recommending this place to others.

This is a very nice place, the staff was very helpful. We did not have problem with noise, the place was not full. I had a great sleep and went to Torres del Paine park the next day. If you want, they can prepare your lunch (a great sandwich) to go, but you should ask for it the day before.
It har computers with internet for free to the guests.
I would stay there again.
