“Service Way Below Expectations”

This is the first hotel that I have ever walked out on, and the happiest part of the visit was the realisation that we did not put down a deposit! After an argument about our room and the fact that our table in the restaurant for all meals during our stay was to be the one furthest from the window (even when other tables were unoccupied), I took our bags from our room and went to the lobby to call a taxi. To be fair the one member of the staff that was nice was the young guy on the desk that made us a free coffee while we waited for the taxi. The rest of the staff could learn something about service from him.

The location is fantastic, no doubt about that, but then again all hotels in this area share an equally stunning spot. I am so happy that we went to stay at Estancia Puema Hue. I think it was slightly more expensive, but the welcome we received when we arrived there highlighted the exact reason why we left Hotel Tronador.

This was the only blemish on an otherwise fantastic trip through Argentina!!!!

Room Tip: Demand a room with a view of the lake. Even though we asked for this, we were stuck in a room where...

A wonderful hotel isolated in the middle of a national park. Great hiking in the area with astounding views. You can take a short hike to the waterfalls around the Hotel or take a long hike to the other side of the lake and around the mountain. The staff is friendly and very attentive to your needs. I would highly recommend staying.

We spent 5 days in February, 2013, at the Hotel Tronador and it was beautiful. Although alot of the staff does not speak English and our Spanish was very basic, with the help of Beatrice, the lovely owner, and our waitress, we were made to feel so welcomed that we did not find this to be a problem.

The hotel itself is located in the Nahuel Huapi National Park which is magnificent. We had a fantastic room with a balcony that looked out to the lake and the mountains. We couldn't have asked for anything better. We would call it a lodge rather than a hotel and it is tucked into a beautiful site on the lake, surrounded by the woods. What more could you ask for.

We took the meal plan there which was very good. It was alittle hard to adjust to eating a big meal at lunch time, but being the good travelers that we are, we got used to it very easily.

Everyday we would hike into the park. The trails were well marked and very beautiful.

Most of the guests were from Argentina and had been there several times. There were families there, but the children were not disruptive so it was not a problem.

We would suggest the best way to reach the hotel is to take a day tour to the Park as the hotel suggests.

If you like secluded and idyllic spots, this is the place to stay.

Hard to find words to describe the combination of natural beauty, privacy and attention one can get at this place. This was my 6th lake week excursion in southern Patagonia and it was the best, by far. We discovered a family hotel ran by the 4th generation that should be declared part of Argentina’s national heritage. Twelve suggested beautiful trails on both sides of Lake Mascardi to escape in solitude. Fishing excursions guided by family members. Hard to match.

Perfect lakeside setting with glacier and mountain views . Think Lake Louise / Canadian Rockies / Banff only better without the crowds, cars, and at small fraction of the cost. We will definitely make the long trip again from the U.S. to revisit this jewel. Gracious family led by Beatrice and her son, Benito who own and operate the hotel and a nearby farm. Website accurately represents the hotel except that it understates the beauty of the setting. Wonderful hiking from your door as rigorous, easy , long or short as you would like. Beatice and Benito accurately represent the hikes and provide directions. Very nice dining areas for breakfast , lunch and dinner. Excellent chef who works with the foods available in this remote location, many of which are grown or raised on the premises. Food is well prepared and flavorful. However do not expect large steaks or fresh fish ( unless you catch the fish yourself ). Excellent Argentinian wines. Excellent servers. Excellent trout fishing in the lake out your front door and in nearby lakes and rivers. Benito and family are excellent certified fishing guides. Row boat available for use without charge on the lake for cruising around and fishing. Kayaks and 2 small motor boats available for rent. Horseback riding with excellent staff to keep you safe. Fellow guests were great with most being repeat clients. We stayed 6 days and could easily have stayed a few more. Requiest a lake side room with balcony. Remote location down a rough dirt road serviced by bus but would recommend renting a car.

This is a beautiful hotel in an amazing location. The owners were amazing and so accomodating. If my intention was to relax in a beautiful setting with family and friends, I would recommend Hotel Tronador. If your intention is to explore Patagonia, hike, raft, eat amazing meals, meet new people, paraglide, ice climb, and just be adventurous, this isn't the place for you. I felt trapped because of the remoteness of this place.
