Description: It is a small restaurant, with only seven tables with intim and warm atmosphere. A short menu with delicious dishes like the cheese fondue or the loin with morrels. Philippe opened his house like a restaurant in 1990 and his wife and daughters work with him. It is located in a residential and quiet area, only ten blocks from the center. A place to enjoy a good meal and a good wine.

“If you like cheese......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

We went there with our daughter and two friends. We ordered the special dinner which was ratatouille to start with. This was very well cooked, sweet and tender. Next came the cheese fondue. It was delicious and served with small cubes of bread, apples and tomatoes. There were five of us and we managed somehow to eat the whole thing. For desert we were given lemon pie which was ok. Not the best but hit that sweet spot. I would go back again but only when the cheese settled!

“Friendly home cooking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2012

Chez Phillippe nestles secretly in an unpaved, leafy residential street, just a ten minute, 20 peso taxi ride out of downtown Bariloche.

We ate there on the recommendation of a local lady who described the restaurant as her favourite in the town. All that distinguishes the restaurant from the neighbouring houses is a name sign. If your arrive early, as we did (dining doesn’t really kick off in Argentina until 10pm; we were there at 8.15pm), you may think that you have rocked up at the front door of a well-healed local resident. Inside there are perhaps ten tables. And this is the key to Chez Phillippe’s success. Traditional Patagonian fare (don’t be fooled by the French name), served with easy, unfussy charm by the delightful Desiree; wife of the Chef. We enjoyed healthy portions of first class cooking, accompanied by a top Argentinian Malbec. The wine list is short but excellent, to suit every pocket and pallet.

The evening ended with a complimentary, home made, Limoncello, which left the tongue zinging and the mind happy.

“Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2012

We enjoyed our evening at Chez Philippe. Desiree & Antu took good care of us. We enjoyed our meal very much and the service was extra special. We plan to go back for lamb stew this next week.

“One of the best meals we've had in Argentina!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

I'm vegetarian so the prospect of a fondue was a welcome break from the usual parilla fare. My husband and I have eaten fondues a lot in the alps in Switzerland and France and we set our expectations fairly low.
However, we were totally blown away by the experience we had at Chez Philippe! The fondue was probably one of the best we've ever had. Go for the tomato one, it's amazing and comes with lots of veggies to dip in - probably the first time we had had fresh vegetables for the first time in weeks whilst travelling in Argentina! The restaurant is in the owners home and was incredibly cosy and different from the rest of the big restaurants you get in Bariloche. The service was amazing and we had such a relaxing enjoyable evening. It's a little bit out of town but not far by taxi. I don't think it is expensive for what it is at all. We paid 230 pesos for the 3 of us and rolled out of there!

Don't be put off by the few reviews this place has - it is definitely worth a visit!

“Decent but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2011

Reviews of this french restaurant were great, but we were not big fans. We had smoked meat appetizer, which was good, and then ordered an expensive cheese fondue. Cheese was very acidic, maybe took much wine, and a rather thin. Hard to keep cheese on the bread or other items. Likewise, the bread was actually a bit burnt and too crunchy and even black in places. Wasn't big fan of apples and the other items for the fondue. The food wasn't bad, it was just okay, but it was the most expensive fondue we had and our least favorite.

That said, the setting and atmosphere were spectacular. Only a few tables, got on right near the fireplace. Multi-lingual staff was great.
