“belive it or not”

We've stayed at La Ernestina for 2 nights and 2 days.
Clean and food was good enough, but we found it too expensive considering that the guide just brought us close to the animal without explaining anything about what we were looking.
Just made us take a sit close to animals and that was all!!!!He also seemed to be annoyed and did not give us the sense of enthusiasm that we've cought everywhere in Argentina.
If you have a lot of money to spend you can try it.

If you want to see orcas, penguins and the aquatic wildlife (i.e., elephant seals and sea lions) very up close and personal, this is the place to do it despite the high prices. Certainly worth at least one night for a special trip to Valdes (our second trip - the first was just a day trip).
We were the only guests that night so we had the undivided attention of Juan and his staff. Got to see orcas close to shore (though by no means guaranteed) as well as the private and large Magellanic penguin reserve

At the end of a 70km dirt road (driving advice to follow), La Ernestina is one of the most relaxing places I have visited. No mobile phones, no BlackBerry signal, no internet, no electricity after 22:00.

We were met on arrival at about 20:00 by Juan, the owner's son, and the motherless lamb that thinks it is a cat.

The rooms are simple. They were clean, but storage space was limited.

There is a communal sitting/dining room which is comfortable and has a good selection of nature and wildlife books about Patagonia, but also about other parts of the world.

Dinner is taken there communally, often with the family. They are civilised and interesting. The other guests are also interesting. The place attracts people who are prepared to make a real effort to visit somewhere unique. While we were there the other guests were a French and an Argentinian couple, and we all immediately struck up a rapport.

Juan is a keen amateur naturalist. He has good connections with the Orca Research Station nearby. One day while we were at lunch he received a call from them that a family of Orcas was moving down the coast. We all rushed away from the table and hurried the 200 metres to the sea in just enough time to see 5 Orcas moving down the coast, 20 metres from the beach. Orcas at the bottom of the garden - how cool is that?

Juan takes visitors to various parts of the 15,000 hectare farm. There is a beach with thousands of penguins, another with elephant seals and another with sea lions. One morning we spent almost an hour crawling close, in single file, to some sea lions. No doubt there is more, but we had not enough time. It is wonderful to have such places to oneself, no parties of tourists anywhere near.

This is an expensive place, but it includes all meals, unlimited excellent Patagonian wine, water, beer, and the trips with Juan.

We arrived during the annual sheep shearing. 7,000 sheep being sheared in three days is quite a sight.

The combination of nature, farm life, civilised hosts and interesting guests made this a truly memorable experience. I wish we had stayed longer and I wish it was close enough to home that we could stay there again.

This place can be summarized in one sentence: go there and stay there at least two nights for the wildlife experience but be prepared.

This place is in the middle of nowhere: no cellphone network coverage, no Internet, limited water supply, electricity when the generator runs (usually a couple of hours in the evening), no gas station, etc. The rooms are OK, the bathroom wasn't too clean either. Very very basic lodging.

If you can live with this, go there, the place is fantastic. The owner (and guide) is really great: the wildlife experience you'll enjoy is probably going to be the best you'll have in your life. Meeting these animals as close as a couple of meters.

Excellent wildlife experience on Peninsula Valdes... the excursions to see the seals/sea lions are interesting and something that you are not able to do alone. The owner will take you right to the beach and you sit within meters of the animals. This area is also known for Orcas although we didn't see any. Great place to stay if you are into photography/wildlife.
The food was good (included in the price) with a large selection of wine/beer/drinks.
The rooms are simple but warm. Good sized bathroom but could've been cleaner.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but felt it was slightly expensive. I would recommend it but only if you enjoy wildlife/being in the middle of no-where. I would also suggest finding out what time the excursions depart as it will help plan your arrival time and also to maximise your time at the peninsula. Also I would advice renting a car to get there.
