We loved our stay at Casa Hernandez. Alex and Rejkje are such caring hosts, very personable and so helpful in getting us familiar with the area and suggesting adventures for our stay, as well as places to eat, how to get around - basically everything.

The house is nestled in the small town of San Lorenzo which is about a 20-30 min. bus ride into Salta. My recommendation is to take the bus into Salta, as it's a very short walk from Casa Hernandez to the bus stop and it's inexpensive. Alex and Rejkje will provide you with a bus card to make it even easier. You can even arrange for Alex to pick you up at the airport - that's what we did, and it was so easy. The drive was about 20-30 minutes from the airport and it was a wonderful time spent talking with Alex - a very friendly and happy sort of fellow.

There's a pool for swimming, but since we were there in winter it was a little cool. The backyard garden area is nice and peaceful with plenty of spots for sitting. We stayed in the Deluxe room and were able to simply walk out to the back garden from our room. All of the rooms (I believe there are three total in the main house) are very nicely furnished with handmade wooden pieces made locally, and everything was very clean. The rooms are cleaned everyday. Breakfast is served until 10 in the morning and it's a nice time to talk with other guests and exchange stories of travel.

Casa Hernandez also is a great place to stay if you plan on taking day trips to a few of the surrounding cities. We rented a car and drove up into the mountains to the five finger lakes one day, and then to Cafayate another, and it felt really comfortable coming back to Casa Hernandez after a long day of driving - tranquil - an ideal spot for one person or a couple. I can't wait to return!

San Lorenzo is a cozy little spot, very quiet with little traffic, lots of walking, plenty of places to eat that are very nice, even to a vegetarian.

Room Tip: On our first night we stayed in the Comfort room with two beds, a nicely sized bathroom with a showe...

Important: it is not possible to book a room at Casa Hernandez via one of the booking sites. You can find them at www.lacasahernandez.com.ar.

Alex & Rykje were born to run a guesthouse! They are so friendly and helpful, you really feel welcome from the moment you enter the casa. They know a lot of good restaurants and activities in the area and are always happy to help you with sorting things out.

The rooms are amazing, it is really like European standards in a typical Argentinian village.

Some reasons to go here:
* The beds are perfect! Great boxsprings for a good night of sleep;
* Breakfast is amazing! They serve home-baked bread, the best we have had in South America;
* The village of San Lorenzo is only about 15 minutes away from Salta by bus (ask Rykje or Alex for a bus card, so you don't have to worry about coins);
* Prices are extremely reasonable, I would pay double for this quality;
* They also offer airport transfers at a good price;
* The Deluxe-room has a sweet little garden in the bathroom, nice view from the bath :-).

Alex and Rykje, thanks again for your excellent service! We really had a great time in Casa Hernandez!

Room Tip: Just go for the Deluxe room with a private bathroom with bath and doors to the garden.

The reviews don't lie - this is a wonderful place to stay. We concluded our honeymoon here and it felt more like being with friends than in a stuffy hotel. Alex and Rijkje were great hosts and charming with their stories and information. The B&B is a short distance from Salta (15-20 mins by bus) but the bus is easy to use (unless it makes a funny turn on the way back and you aren't paying attention ... it was easy to return back to the house though! :) There are a number of nice eateries in San Lorenzo as well, including the pizza place 50 meters from the hotel - yum! Fantastic B&B, definitely worth a return visit!

We found casa Hernandez from trip advisor. Initialy we were sceptical if we should pre-book as Salta wasn't our first destination, however after couple emails exchanged with Alex and Rijkje we booked two nights.
Alex and Rijkje, welcomed us as if we knew each other for years. The level of hospitality is so high we forgot that we were in a BB, it felt like home !!! In addition we received a lot of useful tips and informations for our two trips on the north and south of Salta.

After the first night we decided to make Casa Hernandez our base for our explorations and we never regreted. In total we stayed 5 nights.

If some one hesitates to book a room at Alex and Rijkje's because it isn't inside Salta, please reconsider. San Lorenzo is a 15min (aprx) bus ride from the center of Salta and the buses are very regular.

Room Tip: All the rooms offered are excellent.

In each of the nine days that we stayed in Casa Hernandez with Alex and Rijkje, we felt lucky to be there. Why? There are so many reasons. First and foremost, we were treated like friends. Alex and Rijkje truly enjoy getting to know their guests and were very helpful anytime we needed information, etc... In addition, the home and surroundings were beautiful! The house is located close to hiking trails, horseback riding, and the bus stop (2 blocks) that takes you to Salta in about 15 minutes. The house was at all times very clean. The backyard was lovely and there's a grill and plenty of room to grill and eat outside.
You can't go wrong with Casa Hernandez! We'll stay again if we are ever back in Salta! Alex and Rijkje, best of luck and thank you for all that you did to make our stay wonderful. We won't forget you and you are welcome to visit us in Arizona anytime! Adrienne and Jesse

This truly lovely, cosy B&B (only 4 rooms) is so much more than a hostal, although you pay not more than for one. Rijkje and Alex are wonderful hosts, looking after you more like friends than guests. They make sure that every detail is taken care of to make you the most comfortable possible. They're helpful with everything you can think of. You think it's a shame it's not in Salta downtown?! We think the location, in the little village San Lorenzo 20min from Salta, actually is a blessing - it's so much more peaceful there!
Oh and: the rooms are big and spotlessly clean, the beds comfy and there's a pool in the garden! And the breakfast is THE HIGHLIGHT!

It's hard to list all the good things about Casa Hernandez.

The beautiful location, the spotless and comfortable rooms, the wonderful beds, delicious breakfast, the swimming pool and enormous gardens, good internet and an attention to detail that makes this a traveller's haven after months of hostelling. We stayed in the best room which had a bathroom bigger than most hostel rooms!

But the best thing about Casa Hernandez is Alex and Rijkje who have made this place what it is. They understand what travellers need and go out of their way to provide it. Detailed travel advice and good contacts with tour operators and car rental agency made our time in the NW so much better. Nothing was too much trouble despite Rijkje being off colour during our 8 night stay.

The atmosphere was so relaxing and we spent lots of fun time with other guests and Alex and Rijkje enjoying a drink and a few BBQs as well. This place was a highlight of a long trip for us and we felt genuinely sad to leave.
