“Our favourite accommodation during our Argentine trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

Posada de Luz was our favourite of the seven places we stayed during our recent trip to Argentina. The adobe style hotel is located a 5 minute walk about the heart of Tilcara, and sits within it own large walled grounds / gardens which is a real boon, as it makes it quiter than the majority of accommodation. Dogs barking is an issue all across Argentina in the morning particularly, so I'd advise everyone going anywhere in Argentina on holiday to have a good supply of ear-plugs.

The hotel does no have air-con, but the split-level room design is clever to achieve natural cross ventilation and the stone / concrete floors keep the rooms and a good temperature. Breakfast is lovely, reception staff very helpful. The real attraction is the pool. Its not massive - maybe 7.5 metres by 3, but it is such a lovely thing after a day's sight-seeing to be able to have a dip with such a wonderful panorama.

A great place to stay in Tilcara – or indeed in Argentina.

Very polite and helpful on check-in, lovely room and private patio for the money, great garden and very good quality breakfast. The hotel also made available plenty of information about its services and the local area.

Definitely recommend.

Luz has created a wonderful place to stay. Everything from the majestic grandeur of the surrounding mountains, the refreshing pool and gardens, the excellent breakfast, the service and lots of small touches were spot on.

We were travelling with our infant son. We really appreciated being provided with a cot (with lovely bedding) in our room and a high chair at breakfast. It was also sensational for our son to have the run of expansive gardens, the pool (although it was not warm enough to tempt him to get in) and even a playground!

The room itself was excellent. Divided into two spaces (bed and separate, elevated sitting area), cosy (with heating and option of proper fire - with the fire built and ready to be lit), well appointed with luxurious bed and bedlinen. What made it even better was the way it had french doors opening onto a semi-private sitting area in the garden and a gorgeous view down the valley. We enjoyed having their very tasty picada delivered and picking at it there over lunch.

All this for a price that doesn't usually get anywhere near this level of value.

Wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed here five nights the room was charming with a fireplaces for cold evenings and a lovely patio with views out over the hills.
The breakfast was the first which had cereals with fibre and it was very ample with cereals fresh bread that they bake croissants ham cheese and spreads, fresh orange juice and fruit salads.
We had a warm welcome and were given good information about the area.
We ended up getting altitude sickness after we drove to Salinas grandes and when we went to ask the posada desk where a pharmacy was and told them what had happened they went down for us to get pills for us and brought us teas to the room as we were not feeling well.Wonderful service , great value.

Having already booked a hike with Caravanna de Llamas in Tilcara I followed their link to Posada de Luz. I had visited Tilcara 3 years ago and came back as part of a long visit to South America. I was fulfilling an ambition to wallk with the llamas that I could not do last time. Luz is the sister of Santos who runs the llama treks. So I was keeping everything in the family!! The Posada is in an excellent location on the edge of Tilcara with outstanding views. Luz and Cecilia were very accommodating and it was no trouble to give us all the advice we needed. The gardens are lovely and rooms are cozy, clean and very typical of the area. As it was winter when my sister and I visited the fires were lit in the breakfast room all day and it was very tempting to just sink into the sofas for the day!!! The breakfasts are excellent and offer a good choice. It really is a lovely place so don't hesitate and whilst you're at it book the llamas too!! Thanks Luz and Santos.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
La Posada de Luz is in Tilcara, in the heart of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, which was declared Natural and Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003. It was categorized with three stars by the Tourism Department of the Province of Jujuy, and it has 6 double rooms, triple rooms and a quadruple one. Its owner, Luz Manfredi, knew the area in 1985, while on a trip to Cuzco, and since then she was in love with the landscape and the culture of the people. The project to build an inn in the “quebradeña way”, i.e. with stone foundations, adobe walls and mud cake and cane roofs grew through the years, and it took shape in January 2004 with the opening of the Posada de Luz with its 6 rooms whose main charm are the terraces from where you get a panoramic view of the hills around Tilcara. Since then we have received in the Posada people from all corners of Argentina and the world, many of whom are now great friends of ours. ... more   less
