“Relaxing location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2012

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed La Cantera. It was a relaxing respite after a busy week in BA. The staff were helpful. We decided to have dinner both nights at the hotel and enjoy the ambience of the jungle lodge. The evening food was good, however we kept our expectations in check and breakfast much better with both a hot and cold buffet. The rooms were clean (although the sliding glass doors to the bathroom proved challenging) with ample room to spread out and a nice screened in patio area off of each room. We spoke with some other guests who decided to go into town for dinner one night and ate at Soltara, which they said was "brilliant." They of course were Brits. All in all a pleasant stay and the Falls well worth the trek. We would recommend La Cantera.

Room Tip: Our room was a superion with jet tub, which we didn't use. The rooms are arranged in pods of 8 u...

The jungle room is so nicely done. It fits a five star hotel room rating. The food is okey with big serving. We arrived right after the pouring rain which knocked out the electricity and phone line for a while. Good thing the electricity came back but the phone line did not work even before we left the next day. I read other reivew on Argentina, it seems to be a common problem.
At the Argentina side airport, the electricity was out for a long time causing airline delay. Surprised to see no electritiy genrated by airport generator.

Room Tip: upper floor room got high ceiling which is nice.

The room we chose was one of the deluxe suites with its own spa and only 2 yrs old. The room was delightfully appointed with linen and furnishings. It had 2 queen beds. A good flat screen Tv. The restaurant gave the impression of top class and they certainly tried very hard, but staff were sometimes hard to attract for attention. The food was very tasty but with a limited range our 3rd night was spent at the Aqua resaturant in town. As water was unsafe buying bottled water continuously from a trip to town to brush teeth and drink was a chore. it would've been good to have a complimentary bottle each day in our room for the price. It certainly has its finishing off problems with handles loose, light switches very confusing and a front door lock that caused us many frustrated minutes every time we entered with its "touchy" deadlock. The shower recess filled with water as the drainage slope was not sufficient to keep up with the drainage.

One morning we woke to NO running water for 2 hrs and we had 2 black outs with no power at all. The noise from the construction of the 2 new similar units right next door could not be helped unfortunately. The pool was thoroughly cleaned while we were there. As with any travelling experiences we "went with the flow", but hope that the managment will take heed of these comments. Overall the staff and taxi service was prompt and helpful. A lovely jungle experience away from the madding crowd.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the new building construction.

La Cantera has very nice, new, clean rooms and facilities. The restaurant was trying too hard to be 5 star when it really had a small menu and relatively simple fare. I stayed for 3 nights and sought out a better restaurant in town before returning from the falls. Arranging for a "private taxi" was OK from the hotel to town, However, when returning from the restaurant in town the "taxi" issue got ugly. Having paid 30p going out, the driver tried to scam me, asking double the price. I wanted to explore the "jungle" behind my room, but found no easy way to access it, as all of the walkways are raised and access is blocked. The adjacent property was noisy with construction of another(?) hotel. There are a few trails down the road.... Overall it was a pleasant stay and less expensive than staying at the Sheraton at the falls....if one is willing to add additional time or cost to get to the falls by some combination of private taxi, public bus, etc.

We asked our Buenos Aires travel agent to book us into a hotel frequented by the Argentines and not necessarily a new, four star extravaganza. We were delighted to find, at the end of a long kilometer of bumpy road, the La Cantera Lodge nestled among the trees or the rainforest. The place is nearly new, I believe three years old now in early 2012, very clean, and very comfortable. There is a restaurant on site which is very good as well.

Perhaps the only down side is that fact that it is a commute to the Falls and/or into the town of Puerto Iguazú, however the peaceful sylvan surroundings more than made up for this small shortcoming in the opinions of my wife and me. I would be very happy to stay in this hotel again and would recommend it to friends visiting this area.

We stayed there five nights in order to visit the falls and the neighbourhood.

The rooms are very nice and cool. The service is good and the breakfast is marvellous.
But it is not the real jungle...You can find everything: internet, jaccuzzi, a swimming pool(water is not clear at all and only a few people risked to swim in it),electricity, air conditionning...
We have already stayed in the jungle and it was quite others!: no electricity,no air conditionning and so on and then, in those conditions you can hear the jungle noises (animals make noise)and see some animals...
Here is nothing to hear(except the noise of workers because they are buiding other hotels near!!)nor to see(animals have run away)
In fact, they are busy destroying the environnement for which people come....

Also, they only use taxis working in black instead of using taxis who pay fees and I think it is really neither fair nor honest. On top of that, you pay three times the normal price,,,

I had booked with booking.com and I knew in advance what I had to pay but they let me pay much more ...It is not normal!!

I really felt like a pigeon from whom they tried to have the most money as possible...

I apologise for my poor English but I am French speaking.

The hotel was selected for us by Travel Latin America and our schedule included guided tours of the Brazilian and Argentinian Falls, so its situation, amongst rainforest, approx 1 mile from the main road and 2 or 3 miles from town, suited us fine for a relaxing two nights. The bedrooms are in blocks of 4 away from the public areas, giving a very private and quiet space. The distance from town, however, would be restrictive for those wanting a choice of dining and entertainment. The pool area was small, but well maintained and in a lovely setting. The public rooms were limited, but gave free wifi and a library. The restaurant service was very good, for breakfast and dinner, (we arrived before check-in and were offered breakfast on day one) but a set barbecue meal and entertainment on the second night was not to our taste.
