“Disappointing Hostel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2010

The location of this hostel is great right outside the bus station. The hostel itself was Ok, the dorm was clean but the shower hardly worked and when we asked for it to be fixed it wasnt done. The staff tried to be helpful but ended up giving us all the wrong information for the falls - a little annoying. The swimming pool is also not working, we later found out it hasnt worked for 3 years! I feel this should have been mentioned before we paid. The kitchen hardly had anything in, and the two very small dirty fridges were horrid and you would NOT put food in here. We would not stay here again.

Average place - rooms are poky, old and not that great.
For one night it was fine and after seeing the Falls nothing can dampen your mood anyway!
I imagine that it would be a better place if you were travelling on your own and needed somewhere cheap near the bus, and looking to meet people.
There are better places - if going again I would stay out of town at HostelInn.

Marcopolo Inn was a decent stay. It is a hostel so if you're backpacking it's a great place to meet people. They have a lot of outdoor seating so socializing is super easy. The room was clean enough. We got a private room and had our own bathroom. The bathroom had bugs in it but we were basically in the rainforest and left the windows open so that was definitely more our fault than theirs. Our room also had a tv. They had free internet (3 computers) and wifi and free breakfast. The air conditioning is on only from 7pm-7am but you should be out of your room for the day anyway so this didn't affect us. It was nice to come back to a cool room. You're right across the street from the bus station which is a great location since you can catch the first bus to the falls really easily. And they're partners with Hostel Inn which is bigger and you can use the facilities there - it's only a short bus ride away. Marcopolo does have a pool but it's on the smaller side and when we were there it wasn't looking all that great. The staff is friendly and they have affordable bottled water and other drinks behind reception. I suggest getting it from them before you head out to the falls. It's way more expensive at the falls. And they also have activities at the hostel which is nice. As always, keep an eye on your stuff. We met someone who left her laptop unattended for a few hours in the open and came back to find it gone. Just be aware of your belongings. Overall though, it was a decent stay.

Marcopolo Inn is one of several Hosteling International endorsed locations in the city of Puerto Iguacu. Its a bit smaller than the more popular Hostel Inn, but you really can't beat the location. The Marcopolo Inn is just across Ave Cordoba from the main bus terminal. Once you get off your bus, there is no need to find a taxi our ask for directions, you just walk upstairs, out the door and cross the street. They offer free (although not completely secure) luggage storage, so if you just plan to bump into town for the night, see the falls then jet out on a night bus, this is the place to stay.

Otherwise, the hostel provides free Wifi in the main office, three shared computers, a small pool near a shady common grill and outdoor kitchen, an AM breakfast buffet of cereals, fruits and breads, plus they sale beverages at comparable rates to some of the touristy shops.

The grounds are open 24 hours and the rooms were clean with abundant hot water. The staff spoke English well, were attractive and helpful.

Cons: it's a million degrees in the rain forest and they only run the AC at night; there are cheaper options around; no outside booze is allowed - they have a bar and will sell you 660ml beers (6 AR), but no budget drinking allowed.

Bottom line - Location, Location, Location... even if you find a cheaper deal a mile away, you'll save money here by not ever having to hire a taxi. The bus to Iguacu leaves from the terminal across the street

It is right by the bus station which scared me at first, but it is actually very safe and is not noisy at all and has lot of open space and a killer bar.
The staff are very nice and helpful.
The rooms are quite comfortable and roomy. it is got a pool and the main clincher AC that runs from 7 PM to 7 AM which is a must in Iguazu in summer.
You can easily take the bus to the falls and to Brazil right opposite from the hostel
Dont look any further in iguazu and did i mention this place is dirt cheap :)

This hostel is located perfectly opposite of the bus terminal. The breakfast starts already at 7, which is nice so you can leave early to the falls. Staff was nice and for rooms you get what you pay for - basic but enough for a few nights. Recommended for backpackers.

This hostel has so much promise - fantastic staff, unbeaten location (right opposite the bus terminal) and generally looks fantastic on the surface. Sadly, my experience was let down by mediocre beds (one of them felt like you were sleeping on a plank of wood - no joke), really *bad* showers (good luck regulating water pressure or hot water), and woefully inconsistent wifi (dropped out every 15 mins).

I recognise this is a hostel and for the money you spend, you can't expect a 5-star or even mid-range hotel, however, faults I mentioned (particularly the bed and shower) are so bad that it severely detracted from the other major pluses that this hostel has going for it which is a shame.

Would I stay at this hostel or recommend it - probably not, I would be taking my chances at another location first.
