This is the second time that i have stayed at this hotel - and the prices have doubled in those few short years. The only reason you stay there though is for the location - and the convenience - but it does come at a substantial price and you can't help but feel that you are being taken advantage of - especially with the wifi charge at $14 day. I was amazed as this is the only hotel / B&B in 3 months spent in recent years in South America that charges wifi
They had made a mistake with our booking, so on the first night we were downgraded to a jungle view room, given a slight discount for that, but given free wifi for the duration of our stay. The reception staff were very professional in handling our room situation and we had been moved into our new room (one of their best apparently) by 10am the next day.
You can't deny the location and the views are stunning from the falls view rooms, the bar, restaurant and lobby. The room and beds are comfortable, if not a little tired, and the bathrooms are quite tight - with a shower over the bath.
After staying in smaller hotels and B&B's the intensity of this hotel came as a bit of a shock. Unfortunately when we were there, the hotel seemed to be overrun with large tour groups of noisy North Americans who almost completely took over the bar area. We were appalled (as were the quiet Americans at the next table to us) at how rude and disrespectful some of these people were to the staff in the bar, complaining loudly about everything imaginable. I felt really sorry for the staff and have to say I thought they handled what was obviously an unpleasant situation most professionally. After that episode, we chose to buy our drinks at the bar and take them to our room.
The restaurant was not as good this time as last time, so we elected to go into the town on our 2nd and 3rd nights for dinner - it ended up costing no more with the return taxi ride, than eating at the hotel - and far more satisfying. Breakfast was acceptable with a good selection of fresh fruit juices, though clearly aimed at the mass market.
Our driver for the duration of our stay, provided by the Sheraton, Augustin, was excellent.
So, yes, amazing location and views, but with the price (despite the really good service we received throughout the duration of our stay) and the large noisy tour groups, I would rate it at 3.5 good, above average, but not very good.
