As a part of our honeymoon trip to the south-western US, myself and my husband stayed at the Grand Canyon Ranch for one night and we were blown away by the kindness and hospitality of our hosts. Names have to be mentioned: Cowboy Dave and Miss April were amazing, Pepper went out of his way to cook a lovely meal for me despite my medical requirements (and what a delicious meal it was) and the cowboys (and cowgirl) who met us were so friendly and really allowed us an insight into their lives – we felt truly honoured. Dave spent time with us sharing his jokes and telling us about the history of that part of the united states which was really interesting to hear, as well as singing us cowboy songs by the campfire underneath a starlit sky (not just the stars but you can also see the celestial clouds of the milky way-it was a once in a lifetime experience).
It does appear that the office in Las Vegas who run these tours (Heli USA) don’t always make people aware that the horseback ride is not included in the overall price and is payable at the ranch. This seems to cause confusion and I would like to make it clear that the staff at the ranch are by no means at fault here. It is the staff in Vegas who need to be more clear. Incidentally this horseback ride IS worth the money.
The cabin we stayed in was well-decorated and really cosy. The wood-burner kept us so warm and the bed was comfortable, and the shower facilities very good. It was a wonderfully romantic night looking at the clear sky and cuddling up by the wood burner – perfect for our honeymoon.
This ranch is a definite must. Everybody is so friendly and we felt really sad to leave – even after just one night. I challenge anyone to not fall in love with Beanie and Taco, and a final thanks to everyone who made our stay at the ranch so enjoyable.
Would love to bring our kids back here (if and when we have them) to experience the cowboy life.
Claire and Alan :)
