“An Amazingly Wonderful Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2011

My wife and I are true "city slickers" and very much looked forward to learning more about the dude ranch experience provided by Grand Canyon Ranch. We absolutely felt like we had gone back in time well over 100 years when for two days we got a taste of what life was like in the old west! There are real life cowboys and cowgirls, wagon and horseback rides to enjoy, and beautiful country scenery. We were entertained throughout our visit by Casey Adams, an amazing country and western singer, who has limitless energy to sing as well as to give us history lessons about the ranch, beginning with the original Mormon settlers in 1865. We took advantage of the wonderful Sunset Wagon Buffalo Safari, the champagne toast, Casey's songs and spectacular sunset views. We definitely will be back with friends and family!

Room Tip: We stayed at the Thor cabin, perfect location!

Arriving at Grand Canyon Ranch was a completely different experience. As soon as we got there, you know that you're somewhere very remote. It was superbly quiet. The sun was super hot and all you can think and hope for is is a nice cold drink waiting for you. The lodge itself was very beautiful. They had a cozy place for drinking and eating and the food was decent. Obviously, you cannot expect a gourmet meal! In the evening, when the temperature drops, you will need warm clothes to wear. The entertainment was on a bonfire with Casey's singing and stories of the wild.

The wagon ride with champagne etc was rather disappointing though. The ride took 15 minutes to get there and then that was it. Except that you will also be entertained by Casey's country singing which was great. You cannot say it is a family venue as there isn't a lot of things to do for children there. It's more for adults / couples / friends who are out for an adventure.

The Grand Canyon Ranch was a great place to stay for a Western experience. I stayed here one night and slept in a tipi. It was fun, but my bed was cold and uncomfortable as I was using the 'third person cot'. I think the normal bed was fine though. There was also no shower and one shared bathroom for all the tipi sleepers. But that was the backup bathroom as the normal tipi bathroom was out of order. Anyway, it was only for one night so we didnt mind. The staff were fine but seemed a little stressed. The 'Singing Cowboy', who acted as sort of a host, was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We went on the Sunset Buffalo Trail horseback ride which was fun and a great western experience, and we also took the helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon, which was amazing, but too short. I would recommend this place.

Last year, I had a brief visit during a Heli USA helicopter trip from Vagas to the Canyon. This year I stayed overnight. I will never forget the sunset guided horseride - watching the sun setting across the desert whilst on horseback. Such a sight!!! To complete the night, there was a campfire sing-a-long. I highly recommended an overnight stay!!

This ranch is creating as real a western experience as possible in the 21st century, while still providing great food and lots of fun. It's rustic, the cowboys are the real deal, lots saguaro cactus and mesas. The rooms are basic, but comfortable. We flew in via helicopter and got great views of Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Cowboy exhibitions, horseback rides, and great dinner. The staff and cowboys were great and lots of fun. We had a great time!!!
