Booked the tour two days in advance at the Ampora office on Samiento in Centro. At first thought $175 US each was a bit much but after the tour we realized it was worth every penny. There were four of us on the tour, the maximum is 8. Jose our guide was exemplary, his English perfect and the wineries chosen wonderful. 4 stops included Kaiken, Pulente Estate, Caelum and Ruca Malen for lunch. Each stop got better and better (not because of the sampling although the pours were more than generous). Our favorite was Caelum, a small boutique bodega serving an awesome "icewine style" Nuvola Dolce Malbec more reminiscent of a port and it is wonderful. They also have a planting of pistachios that are served with the tasting and are for sale ($30 pesos per 250 gm bag). At Pulente we bought an Extra Virgin Olive Oil (La Flor) also exceptional. The tour at Poluente was one of the best. Their underground tasting room is unique. The 4 course lunch at Ruca Malen (included) in their outdoor enclosure at the vineyard was as good as it gets paired with 4 tasty wines. We like wine but are not great on all the nuances of aroma, flavors, etc. but we came away with a better understanding of young, old, finish and character. We easily suggest using Ampora as a tour guide. Wine, Mendoza, sunny day, life is good. The views of the Andes on a sunny day are hard to beat. Hotel pick up was prompt at 08:45 and we were home at 5:15 pm.
