“The Worst Hostel Experience EVER”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

This hostel has good prices, but everything else is horrible. I felt like I was harassed daily by the people who work there (the owner, his girlfriend, and his sons). They constantly barged into the dorm rooms and used the private guest's bathrooms there; I felt like I had no privacy. They smoked in the house, yelled at me and other backpackers for not drying the dishes, and took over the common room's computer and tv that is supposed to be for the guests. They lied about having wi-fi in all of the rooms and the computer in the dorm room did not work- I guess it was just there for decoration. Also, they never cleaned the bathroom when I was there and when other people left the dorm, I never saw anyone change the sheets. Overall, I don't recommend this hostel to anyone...paying a little more for another hostel, in this case, is definitely worth it!

I don't have many comments on the hostel because I didn't actually stay there. It was overbooked and he told us we had a problem over the loud sound of his son and his girlfriend watching very loud tv. He had beds in the dorm for us for three times the price we would pay for a private room. He kept telling us it was our problem and after some arguing he offered us an apartment four blocks further away from the centre for 900 pesos, because it was semana santa we didn't have any other options so we took it. When checked out of the apartment we wanted to store our luggage for the afternoon, he didn't want to do it because we didn't check into the hostel, telling us again it wasn't his fault or problem. For 15 pesos each he would store our luggage. I had a bad feeling about the owner from the get go, reading other reviews that feeling was right.

Ariel who owns the hostel is very friendly and offers really good advice on tours and day trips. The hostel is not the best of locations but is only about a 5 or 10 minute walk from the city centre and is cheaper than other hostels in Mendoza. There is a free, very basic breakfast. Hostel is cosy although the main dorm is very cramped but with a nice ensuite bathroom and great shower. The free wine in the evenings is great!!

Free pickup from the busstation! A very safe and secure hostel, with locked gates which means it is actually closed for everyone who does not have a key to the front gate. Breakfast whenever you wanted, and a pool which you could actually use and swim in! Great! A very spacious, clean and beautiful backyard with lots of tables, chairs, a fussball-table and a nice pool. The tripleroom had a very spacious private bathroom, it was excellent. The internet did not work most of the time, + it was located in a somewhat dodgy area (at least at night). But other than that, it was a great hostel with a very friendly, funny and helpful owner who treated you as one of his own kids!

Even on advertising materials it looks pretty well almost everything what was advertised (or maybe all) was not true. The owner behavior was very strange, your fat son was downright annoying, breakfast was poor, advertised wine for free was really disgusting, etc. In addition to all those mentioned above the landlord took from us 180 USD to give us (four people) ride to the Cordon del Plata (aproximatelly 50+ km far from Mendoza).

Strangest hostel I have stayed at..and I've stayed at a few. Although billed as a family hostel, this is one family I would not want to be a part of. The owner is inappropriately friendly with the female guests, asking one of my friends to sit on his lap. At the same time he has very public arguments with his girlfriend who is 30 years his junior in front of his 2 children. His older son was caught stealing food and doing other un-savoury deals... Aside fromt he allegations of cameras in the shower, which we again heard whilst there, the owner became physically aggressive with a fellow guest over a dispute regarding payment. He also verbally threatened him. Promises of hot water are untrue, rooms are small, cramped and cold. Smoking is allowed inside at all times (even when eating). Location is much further away then described, and on the opposite side of town to all the other hostels. At least a 20 minute walk to the main street.

Overall please do yourself a favour and do not stay here.
