“If traveling solo this is the place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Lay back friendly hostel with knowledgeable managers. You can book all your tours with them and was really impressed when I did not like the horse riding activity they refunded my money -wow unheard of in Latin America. The hostel was clean and very centrally located within walking distance to everything. Take their recommendations they are accurate.

Room Tip: stayed in the dorm which was adequate

this place is really awesome, just the atmosphere is so welcoming and homely. the crowd that this place attracts is great.. i met 2 great people here who i still keep in touch with. just the right size and in a good area close to what you need. the kitchen has most of what you need, although a sharper knife would not go astray. the family dinner while rather expensive was quite tasty and the free wine is a nice touch and pretty good considering its free. i highly recommend this place if you are after meeting likeminded travellers who are just there to party the night away with thumping usic and crawl into bed at 5am.. this place is tranquilo... muchas gracias

Room Tip: ask the english guy about the choripan place nearby, its awesome and cheap... seriously

Everything was fantastic about hostel Lao , the staff were friendly & helpful, nothing they wouldnt do. Laid back vibe, lovely breakfast, comfortable communal area & so close to the bus station. Best place we have stayed!

Stayed here for 4 days and mike the owner ensured we had a great time. His asados are the best in Argentina and he has a great supply of great wine!
We had such a good time we stayed a few extra days to keep the fun going.
Thanks Mike and Celeste!!

I stayed at Hostal Lao about a month ago. It was close to the main bus terminal and the local bus stop was just across the street.

When I arrived, early from an overnight bus, the breakfast fixings were already on the table and was offered to just help myself.

The staff was very friendly and had me quickly underway to wine tasting. They gave me excellent directions with taking the local bus to the wine route.

For my second night there they had arranged for me to take a guided wine tour. Four wineries and a huge meal at the end. It was a very great tour and I plan on doing it again next year when I return!!

There is a large kitchen that has everything you need to make meals. It's large enough to have a couple other people cooking at the same time. The dining room table is quite large; I believe about 12 can sit at one time. And, there is ample room outside to sit amongst the trees and lovely yard.

Room Tip: I stayed in a 6 person shared dorm room.

Buddy and I booked a double room (La Cava). Forgot to research properly and book a room with 2 twins. Lao was super accommodating and just threw another twin mattress in there. Plenty of space in the room (had a small couch too) and the bathroom was spacious and clean. Only problem with the room was that it was right next to road and a little noisy, but that's being picky.

Staff is great. Mike is funny and a great cook. The hostel threw 2 asados while we were there and both were fantastic. Hostel has good relationship with local bike rental companies, which you should definitely take advantage of. Baccus is the cheaper alternative to Travel in Bike but you get great value at both locations. Breakfasts consisted of bread, some pastries, coffee, cereal, yogurt and juice. Even pancakes one or two days!

Would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Get one in the back by the garden maybe. Less traffic noise.

Lao is an excellent choice if you are in Mendoza. It has an spotless reputation and it deserves it. This places grows on you, if you only stay for a few days it will just be another very well run and friendly hostal, but staying (and most cool people choose to prolong their stay) a little longer makes you realize why this is one of the best hostals in South America. I had 14 days there and I enjoyed every day, would have loved to stay a few weeks more :)
The owners and the workers have a personal and upfront approach to the guests, and if you let yourself get involved you end up feeling more like belonging to a family than a traveller. Which was exactly what I needed at that time :)
