I stayed here around Thanksgiving 2005 and had only wonderful things to say about the place. My boyfriend and I thought the whole area was the most beautiful place we'd ever been and we vowed to return. We thought the folks at Cliff Dwellers were great and we LOVED the restaurant.
As a result, I decided to return with my parents in October 2007. I was shocked -- and I felt guilty for recommending the place so highly. The room was only moderately clean, and it was a huge hassle to get extra pillows and blankets. Additionally, there was hardly any light due to the fluorescent bulb by the door being out -- which the lady at the desk didn't know how to fix.
Most dissappointingly, the restaurant was awful. The two waiters had disappeared and the food was piling up -- the poor cook was shouting out from the kitchen for someone to please deliver things to the tables. When we got our food it tasted no better than the snack shack at your local swimming pool. It was served on paper plates with plastic utensils. We felt like they weren't even trying. This wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been so wonderful two years before -- and so overpriced. My turkey sandwich cost something like $10-12 -- I did expect it to come on a real plate.
Bottom line: this is a BEAUTIFUL area you should definitely check out. Cliff Dwellers is a fine place to stay, if you're just looking for a place to rest your head. Just don't expect it to be like it was : )
