We were booked into Yira Yira, sight unseen, and were unsure of what to expect when we arrived. And after staying in several hostels and hotels in South America, we can tell you Yira Yira is by far our favorite. No question.
We're a mid-30s American couple, backpacking around South America for the first time. And a couple of times, we've made Yira Yira a kind of "base camp" for our operation. And for good reason.
The guest house itself is perfectly located, as other reviewers have indicated. It's within walking distance to most all of downtown BA, a couple of short blocks to the nearest Subte, and a cheap taxi ride to points beyond. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable, elegant place from which you can explore the entire city, you just can't beat Yira Yira, expecially considering the cost.
The rooms are simple, but (as we said) elegant. The beds are so so comfortable. The wirless internet is BLAZING fast. And the Argentine breakfast is terrific.
But what makes it our favorite place is the innkeeper, Paz. She's friendly, funny and very, very helpful. Our best nights were spent sitting in the living room with Paz and other guests, drinking a glass of wine, and sharing stories and lots of laughs.
We can't recommend it highly enough!
(Oh, and by the way... Yira Yira is only a block away from the best pizza house in all of Buenos Aires - "El Cuarito." Another reason to stay there. hehehee)
