The Pampa Plaza Apartment Hotel is in Belgrano across the road from a good neighbourhood park. We stayed here for a week with a group of 20, some of us using 2 of the Penthouses and others in studio apartments. For the special rate we negotiated this was great for us and good value. It’s a bit out of town but with Taxi’s so cheap its far less frantic. It looks like a new hotel but the general standard of finish is poor and the description is not accurate. The main penthouse has 3 bedrooms, 1 en suite shower bathroom and 1 other shower/ bathrooms with 2 further toilets! The 2 smaller bedrooms are small as the rest of the apartment is very spacious with a massive terrace with a fabulous view over the park towards the downtown buildings of BA and across to the river estuary. Each Penthouse is different so check this out first; we were in the best one apparently!
Sadly the Sauna does not exist and the laundry is a serviced wash only (expensive by BA standards). The pool was only half full and not clean, all of the toilets seats were not securely fitted or the safes all malfunctioned. The staff were charming but poorly trained and motivated, breakfast was simple but adequate. It was generally clean, very comfy beds and quiet except for the daytime planes at the nearby small domestic airport. Taxis’ had problems finding the location, but once we knew what to ask for it was all fine. Cooking facilities and equipment are limited, but lots of space to work and dine in just poorly designed.
We did moan to the manager about the lack of maintenance but were told it will be ‘fixed tomorrow’ and as we know tomorrow never comes. We decide not to return here when we retuned to BA a week later.
After a week I was ready to leave. Cheap, cheerful but only just adequate. The local area is blessed with one of the best restaurants in BA the Selquet where we had consistently good steaks and the best Filet Mignon in my life. The Sucre on the opposite corner of the block is lovely for a special romantic dinner. There is a famous ‘Love hotel’ on the corner where rooms are discreetly hired by the hour, but it looks far from seedy, so don’t pop in unless you mean to.
Worse eating place in town was the famous Cabana Las Lilas, it may have been great once but the meat along with the staff and the experience is a conveyor belt of boring and expensive, ‘get em in ; get em out’. Best Tango show at Bar Sur.
