After three nights at the Cocker, which is round the corner, Casa Bolivar was a bit of a disappointment! We had the Baroque loft which was spacious and had a nice bathroom and kitchen, but the sleeping area could have used another bedside table. Breakfast was perfectly fine for BA, and Mathilde, who checked us in and was often on hand to answer questions, was lovely. The downside was that she appeared to be the only member of staff who spoke English, a problem when we came to check out! I don't expect all Argentinians to speak English, but if you're working in a hotel you should have a basic grasp... Casa Bolivar is probably great for the business traveller, or if you're staying in BA for longer than a week - we didn't get a chance to use the kitchen in our loft, but it was a good bonus.

  • Liked — spacious, fairly cheap
  • Disliked — location wasn't very central for San Telmo, staff couldn't help us due to language barrier

We stayed for 4 nights in the Tango loft at Casa Bolivar. The lofts have a fully equipped kitchenette which was excellent for preparing meals and snacks.

Breakfast is provided in the morning and you can take a tray back to your loft if you like. I did this most mornings.

The front desk staff were lovely. Very friendly and accommodating, and gave recommendations on what to see and where to go.

The only problem is the location. Although the website says it is in San Telmo, I would argue it is too close to La Boca for comfort. We were advised not to walk around at night. We like to walk and we did not feel at all safe even during the day. Nothing happened (and I'm sure the feeling was more imagined than real) but there were some interesting characters hanging around. There was grafitti everywhere, it was dirty and not well lit. Mind you lots of places in BA seemed to be like this.

The subte was a 10 minute walk away and that was not an enjoyable stroll either.

At night I heard shouting on the street outside and did not feel entirely safe.

We ended up staying here because the other hotels on offer seemed to be mostly in Palermo and Hollywood. We thought this was too far away from the main sights. If you stayed there you'd have to get taxis and subte everywhere too.

We came to the conclusion that La Recoleta was a better neighbourhood to stay in. It is more central and appeared to be safer than San Telmo and definitely La Boca.

I wouldn't recommend Casa Bolivar because of the location but the lofts are fabulous and I couldn't fault the service.

Casa Bolivar is a wonderful building with many original features, and that certainly adds to its overall appeal. Our 'Loft' - Zen - was modern, airy and spacious - and good value, having an apartment for a similar price as you'd get a room for. It was all very clean and had everything you'd need for a short stay. The kitchenette area was useful primarily for the fridge and kettle, though we did use the hob. The bed was comfy and the TV had a few English channels for those moments when you just want to collapse! Staff were friendly and helpful and there's free internet. Breakfast was pretty good with the usual bread / pastries but also ham and cheese, cereal, fruit and yoghurt. Not seen in many places in Argentina! The only downside is it's location - whilst it claims a San Telmo address, some maps would put it in La Boca and the walk to the centre of San Telmo is about 15 mins through a not so salubriouos part of town. The nearest metro station is also about 10 - 15 minutes walk away but there are buses.

Just returned from a week in Buenos Aires - what a beautiful city! We stayed the entire time at Casa Bolivar in San Telmo.

Our two main contacts were Stefan (one of the owners) and Guillermo. From the ride from the airport to the hotel - all through the stay - to the ride back to the airport - they managed to make our stay a memorable experience.

We had the Contemperain Studio - very comfortable and roomy, with all the amenities you would need. Breakfast every morning - plentiful.

They arranged a massage for us in our room, and overall were very helpful.

This is a charming hotel in the bohemian, antique area of San Telmo. Lots to see, great restaurants within walking distance. Subway access within 10 minutes walk.

I would definitely go back!

This hotel, set in an old Mansion in a historic part of town was incredibly beautiful, comfortable, and tucked into my favorite part of all of Buenas Aires. The modern rooms were a fabulous constrast to the colonial style mansion. The French style breakfast served everyday was excellent. I looked at 5 or 6 rooms at Casa Bolivar and all were beautiful and charming. I also checked out about 10 different hotels while in BA and Casa Bolivar was far and away my favorite and an excellent value besides. The best part of Casa Bolivar however was the staff. They were attentive, helpful, incredibly open and honest, and extremely friendly. I would highly recommend Casa Bolivar to anyone going to Buenas Aires.
