“Very expensive for poor quality place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

Our room was in the bar, meaning we had to walk through everyone to get to the toilet and were kept up in the night.
Staff weren't especially friendly, we weren't asked if wed like to join in a hostel organised dinner.

Basic facilities, very small kitchen. Breakfast is stale bread and fruit covered in flies!

Good location for palermo.

I´m really glad this reviewer liked our location. Being in the middle of Palermo Soho, one of the most desireable parts of Buenos Aires, is a big deal - and our guests love it.

I´m sorry that these guests were not invited to a hostel dinner - we always try to include everybody in our actitivies. We reguarly get great reviews for our staff so that surprises me. Perhaps the guests were out when we were organising it.

After a few comments about breakfast, we´re going to look into it. At the moment it´s toast, jam, tea, fresh filter coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice and drinking chocolate. But not flies!

Also our kitchen is big enough for 4 or 5 people to be cooking at the same time and has stove, oven, microwave, all the pots and pans you might need. It´s not huge but then we only a maximum of 20-25 guests here.

We do have rooms in the reception area and most people are happy to be there, but if you don´t like the room, and if we can, we´ll move you to another room.

I´m not sure what expensive means. We are very competative with other hostels in Buenos Aires (at time of writing AR$240 for private room and $80 for a dorm), although people do find BA a bit more expensive than it was a few years ago. Inflation will do that. We still think we´re great value for money, for a hostel in one of the most desireable areas of Buenos Aires.

There wasn't really anything particularly wrong with this hostel other than the breakfast which was a joke - definitely the worst we had on our trip. We had a double room off the reception/bar area which was fine. A little bit noisy as the staff would keep the tv on late into the night even if there were no guests in the reception area. The staff for the most part are pleasant - than one guy who was fairly unpleasant - but I found I was always the one greeting them and instigating conversations whereas it should be the other way around. Also there was no "welcome to BA" chat like you get in most hostels, explaining the various transport options/tours/activities. You were left to your own devices. There seemed to be a rotating cast of characters there. We stayed 4 nights and there must have been 7 guys behind the desk at various points.

The hostel itself is quite nice with the indoor courtyard area. The bathrooms were clean. The location is great right in the thick of the action in Palermo. Security is good - you have to buzz in. It was a bit quiet when we were there, we thought there would be more of a buzz in a Palermo hostel and maybe there is normally.

I stayed at Back in BA for four nights and had a great hostel experience! Small, comfortable hostel right where you want to be when in Buenos Aires. Palermo is the best neighborhood by far in BA. Everyone who works there is extremely knowledgeable and is happy to answer any questions you have. I really felt at home while there. One of the front desk workers, Melvin, took me too a Cross-Fit class! Homey spot stay there you won't regret it!

Couldn't have asked for a better stay at Back in BA. We spend a week there in November and had an amazing time.

We were in a double room with shared bathroom which was great value. The whole place was cleaned everyday and you honestly couldn't wish for nicer staff. Pablo and Melvin were so friendly and tipped us off on some great local restaurants.

The location is amazing as well, right in the heart of Palermo.

I'd recommend anyone to stay here. Tip on the room, if your looking for a double with a bathroom they only have one and it's room 6.

Finding a reasonably priced hostel in downtown Palermo Soho can be very difficult. Things in Buenos Aires are overall, very expensive. It seems either you stay somewhere really nice for an extreme high price or you get a dump for a reasonable price.

Back in BA hostel was reasonably priced yet not a dump. We paid about $45 per night for a private room. I was initially very concerned because the private room was just outside the main lounge area but there was more noise coming from the street than the hostel. This was to be expected though on a Saturday night in Buenos Aires!

We had no reservation when we arrived and one of the kind owners (who spoke perfect English) greeted us warmly and took us in right away. The room of the hostel was very clean and the bathroom spotless as well. Breakfast was provided in the morning, a very simple affair but adequate.

It's not the best hostel I have ever stayed in but if you are looking for a basic, clean, no-frills hostel with a very friendly and helpful staff in a great location for a reasonable price, you should surely stay at Back in BA.

This was not the cheapest hostel I found when searching for a place to stay in Bs As, but really worth the price!! The service is great, since doing the reservation by e-mail till the check out. The location is very great, it's near the metro station and several bus stops. The neighborhood is very safe and has nice options to go out at night too! Matt, the manager, is very friendly and helped us a lot when we arrived there, showing us the spots of the city and giving us some tips (in fact, all the staff is very friendly and easy going!). The security is good, they asked our identification as we wanted to go into the hostel a several times, since all staff knew us. The kitchen is clean and has all you need to cook, and you can keep something in the refrigerator if you want. The private room I stayed was simple but good, the calefacción worked well all the days. The dorm I stayed after was very big, with big lockers, and people really respected the "silence hour".

Would definitely recommend this hostel to any friend going to Bs As! And I already want to come back!! :)

Room Tip: There are too private rooms that are in the reception hall (don't remember the number of them...
