“Very good place !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We absolutely loved the place, the situation is excellent, very close to Praça de Mayo, and the welcoming was great ! The owner is really nice and it's more flexible than staying in a hotel.
I will certainly recommend !

Very good value. Everything was clean when we were there, the medialunas fresh and the OJ freshly squeezed. Really nice to feel as though you are staying in someones home, and able to use the kitchen at all hours. Very useful to know a little Spanish to make communication easier.

We've traveled around the world and this is the only place where we were asked for payment as soon as we stepped in the front door. We realized why when we checked into the room and found hair and stains from a previous guest. The next morning we killed a bedbug by the pillow then were served stale medialunas, tea, and OJ and taunted by a box of cereal (no yogurt or milk available, just powered milk). We were asked again for payment (we had yet to get to an ATM).

We decided to check out early and thought the decent thing to do was give Mario advance notice. Unfortunately, the next morning, Mario indicated this was not possible and said we must pay the whole reservation despite us trying to give him two nights in cash.

For over an hour, he sat on the couch by the front door, even standing in front of the door as I tried to unlock the door, then trying to pull the keys out of my hand over his shoulder. Thank goodness another guest was still there otherwise I'm sure it would have been much worse. He told the other guest he was holding us prisoner even as the other guest tried reasoning with him. We eventually got the door open and made our way to freedom.

I would not recommend this place as Mario is clearly money rather than service oriented and will do what he can to maximize his short term return.

About our policy
Any lodgings in the world request a credit card or either the total payment at the check in. The policy of Che Telmo is the total payment at the check in, and this was informed to booking.com. We also inform that the cancelation of the reservation should be done with 72 hours of anticipation to not pay anything, if is done with less time of anticipation the guest should pay the entire reserve. We have confirmed that they received that information.
About the banks
The nearest one is located 1 block of distance. As we are located in the heart of Buenos Aires, no further than 3 blocks you can also find the most important banks of the country. For any reason they refused to pay when they arrive. It seems that they weren't sure about how many days they would stay.
About the sheets and the room
The second day they sent us a mail to cancel the reservation in which they express their grateful for our hospitality. They never make complain about the sheets, they also sleep there. So it’s obviously that is just an excuse they invented when they wrote here that it can't be proved. Anyway we want to tell that the sheets are changed with each renewal of guests, or after 5 days if the stay of the guest is longer. Because of this message, we look in the room but we don´t find any insects. Just in case, we also decide to do a preventive fumigation. If is true that you saw insects, it’s probably that you were carrying it.
About the breakfast
We regret you didn´t like the cereal dispenser. We provide powder milk because is more practical than the liquid milk (Which is cheaper). We only provide liquid milk en case of long stays. The responsible use of the food is our policy.
We serve an Argentinean breakfast: Coffee, milk, croissants, jam, dulce de leche, butter, orange juice, toasts, etc. The croissants are bought every day in a bakery that made them daily.
If you want to investigate in this portal a guest uploaded a photo of the breakfast because he was happily impressed.
Che Telmo is 5 rooms lodging that can´t serve a continental breakfast, but we offer the best service we can for the price paid. Anyway free coffee and tea is offered 24/7.

We think that no one can blame us for charge the service we offer. About the guest they have mentioned, we want to tell that she is still staying in Che Telmo and she will be here for 21 days more with her husband and daughter that arrived later to Argentina. She paid the total stay after solved a problem whit his bank.
We want to explain that we need to use this policy of payment with anticipation because a reserved room which is not taken implies a lost of the 20% for our business.
We invite to any traveller to see the comments of anyone who have visited us and you will see that they are satisfied with our service and that in Che Telmo we offer a good service.

I've read reviews about this b&b and decided to stay here during my stay in Buenos Aires - and we are very glad we did. We stayed for 4 nights here and we feel like home. Marta and Mario - the lovely couple who owned this b&b, were super friendly, attentive and welcoming. The price is reasonable, the room is clean and decent with comfy beds and cable tv. Clean bathrooms and great showers - probably one of the best showers I've had in my entire trip in South America. The location is perfect, right within walking distance to major attractions, also close to metro and bus stations.

Communication was not a problem although I do not speak Spanish - Marta and Mario always made every effort to help and give recommendations. On our first night of arrival, they recommended us to this all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant with superb steaks and red wine. And knowing that we want to take the Manuel Tienda Leon bus to the airport, Marta helped us call the bus company to make sure the bus schedule is correct.

Overall, an excellent B&B and I would definitely recommend to anyone who plans to go to Buenos Aires.

I'm so glad I found this great b&b on hostelbookers.com. It was the perfect start to our 9 week travels in South America. The price was perfect for Buenos Aires for a private room in a lovely traditionally decorated guest house, much better for a couple than to stay in a rowdy hostel. We stayed here for 3 nights. The bathrooms are shared but this wasnt a problem, especially for the price. They were very clean, never busy and with good hot water. Our room was very big and full of interesting family memoribilia, a comfy double bed and t.v. The only negative with our room was that it was the closest to the kitchen so in the morning was a little noisy. The breakfast was really good also, we got tea/coffee/orange juice and medialunas.

The location was just perfect for sight seeing in the city centre on foot, located on the edge of San Telmo and the central district, just around the corner from Plaza de Mayo. The street and area felt very safe and there is a metro station close by to access other parts of this huge city.

It felt more like staying in someone's appartment as it was so homely and in a resident's building. I would recommend researching the location well as the sign outside is tiny but our taxi driver found the street number no problem. One highlight in staying here for us was also the lovely owner, Mario. As other reviewers have mentioned his English is not very good, but this is part of the experience and it made it more fun trying to communicate with him. He is a very friendly lovely man, trying to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one. If you are looking for an excellant value, clean, friendly, central b&b I would definitely recommend Che Telmo.

We felt like we got very lucky with Che Telmo. It's clean, quiet and safe, and in a great location in San Telmo close to the city centre.
The owner Mario is very very helpful, although he doesn't have the best English he was friendly and welcoming and happy to help us find our way around the city.
We had a triple room, which was simple but clean, although we did have to get used to posters of Che Guevra plastering the walls....
Overall it was great value and a great find - I'd definitely recommend it.

We stayed for 7 nights in che telmo and we're made to feel very welcome. Mario was a very pleasant host who recommended us a Spanish school which helped us communicate with mario's limited English and our limited Spanish. The hostel is clean including the shared bathrooms and most importantly the bedding. We had a double (the evita room) and the bed was comfy. The beds were made daily too which was a bonus.

The hostel is located 3 floors up but the walk helped us burn off a couple of mouthfulls of steak!! The hostel is quite dark as it is set back from the main street through a courtyard. The darkness was a good compromise as the location meant it was very quiet. The subte is located on the next street giving access to the whole city. There are a few options for eating, drinking, sightseeing and tango close by.

The kitchen had plenty of bits to use and a decent table to eat at. The breakfasts were typically Argentinian which consisted of a few pastries and tea or coffee. We wanted a bit more so bought our own cereal and fruit from the small supermarket next door.

Overall a pretty decent hostel.
