Great hotel.

Location: I liked the fact that the road the hotel is on is quiet despite its proximity to the centre of palermo (5 -10 min walk), which is in my opinion the best part of BA to stay in - lots of trendy bars, restaurants and shops.

Rooms: Bed is comfortable and the room is clean and simple, if a bit small. Simple in a good way though, it doesn't feel budget at all. Second time I opted for a room with a shower but the shared showers are fine and private.

Hotel: Small bar and communal sitting area next door. Could be bigger to meet people as I was travelling by myself. Nice terrace on the top to sunbathe in. You need to ring the bell to get in as they don't let you go out with keys. I was fine with this as it shows they want to be safe.

Staff: Friendly and useful, they have maps and are more than happy to recommend local bars clubs and restaurants. I'd recommend "lo de jesus", had a fantastic steak there. Owner seemed a bit suspicous of me for some reason but the rest were all very amicable.

Would give it 4.5 out of 5 for a couple but it gets 4 from me as I was travellng alone.

The hotel itself is quite nice, the bar area is good and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The location is also good.

I didn't like the fact that they charged for breakfast (which was no good anyway) and they charged 6 peso's per 15 minutes for the internet. The only place we stayed in Argentina that charged at all !

The room was nice with a good bathroom but a very noisy hotel, so if you are planning on a late night don't expect a lie in.

  • Liked — Nice relaxed atmosphere and location
  • Disliked — Breakfast and internet charges

I stayed in the Hotel Costa RIca in Buenos Aires with my wife as part of our honeymoon trip in 2008 and was happy with the choice. We opted for a $50 room on the top floor with a shared bathroom, which wasn't a problem as there were no others sharing at the time. The room itself was small, but very clean and with an extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom doors didn't shut properly, which was a little inconvenient, but they were kept very clean every day without fail. The communal areas of the hotel downstairs were comfortable and welcoming and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The location of the hotel was pretty good for Palermo Viejo and around. Not far to walk to the subway either. On the whole, not a bad choice for a capital city...

  • Disliked — Bathroom doors not closing!

I was scheduled to stay in the Hotel Costa Rica (HCR) for 2 nights. I ended up staying for 10. The key things you should know about HCR are: (1) its very good value for money (about $65 per night for a small room – 10% more if you pay by card) (2) the staff are utterly charming – they remember your name, your favourite drink and take time to recommend the best places to visit (without being remotely overbearing or intrusive), (3) the hotel itself is lovely. It’s full of character and the lobby/ bar area is a wonderful space in which to eat, drink, read a book and unwind after hitting the streets of BA. The rooms and communal spaces are very clean!! (4) The location is perfect: after a 4 minute stroll you are in the heart of Palermo, with its abundance of excellent bars and restaurants. (5) If you opt for one of the cheapest rooms you should note that there is no TV, telephone or bathroom. However, the communal bathrooms are very clean and not remotely oversubscribed (you wont find yourself queuing).

If you are the type of person who likes boutique hotels that ooze charm and warmth you will love this place.

The lobby looked good, the location was ok - not too far from the heart of Palermo-, the staff was very nice, the matresses were very good and the hotel also has nice terrasses where you can take a nap... but the room itself was very very small. With the queen size bed in the middle, we could barely walked in the room. The only window was facing the hallway so everyone can see what you are doing in your bedroom... And the breakfast was not included in the price, which is very uncommon for Buenos Aires. Not the worst place where I have stayed but not the best either.

  • Liked — the place is pretty clean
  • Disliked — the room is really too small, breakfast not included, internet servoce not for free and very expensive
