Hotel Costa Rica is a wonderful boutique hotel.
PROS:
-- Walking distance to the best area in BA (Palermo Viejo -- it's in Palermo, but a few blocks from the "center" of it)
-- After considerable research, nicest hotel for the price (very reasonable price) in the neighborhood we wanted to stay in**
-- Exceptionally friendly staff and owner!!
-- Given great recommendations for places to eat, drink, and sightsee (I will remember that amazing pepper steak at Lo de Jesus for a long time)
-- Cool architecture and interior design, hip and modern yet very warm
-- Terrace and bar
-- Air conditioner (needed for the summer humidity)
-- Comfortable bed
-- It's what I would expect and hope for in a good boutique hotel (definitely great for people who want something considerably nicer than a hostel, value location, cannot afford a five star hotel, and understand how boutique hotels may potentially differ from more standard hotels, including chains)
I think it's always important to give a balanced review, so here are the cons, but honestly, they felt minor to me/us:
-- Cash only (but this is something common in Argentina in general and not unique to the hotel)
-- We had a standard room with a European shower -- it took us a little getting used to, but not a big deal (I loved the water pressure in the shower though)
-- Because one of our windows went into the hallway, sometimes you could hear others talking (but mostly the hotel was pretty quiet)
-- Pool would have been nice
My boyfriend and I mentioned that we were going out to dinner later for my birthday in passing . . . and an hour later, there was a knock at our door . . . a bottle of champagne! It really made us feel special.
We really appreciated Hotel Costa Rica and its staff for being such a great part of a very special trip.
