“Great staff, gorgeous building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

The old Parisian building is gorgeous and in a really good location. The staff are all nice and very helpful. Breakfast is good. Our private room had a balcony the overlooked the street outside which was pleasant but very noisy in the mornings. Also, image had some very noisy neighbours in the room next to ours and the wall provides no sound barrier. Other than that, we had a good time.

I've been travelling around the world staying in hostels and I can quite confidently say that El Sol and BA are at the top of my list of places to go back to.

Clean, comfortable, great location, great atmosphere and lots if helpful staff and long term residents.

Fantastic Saturday nights at the roof bar with live music and generally full of interesting people.
I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

We missed our flight so we got the pleasure of staying an extra day in Buenos Aires.

This place is just okay. It is not great and it isn't bad, especially if you are into the arts. The private room was kind of beat up for being a private room, and was right next to the desk, which is where the common area is, so it did not seem so private, for those who want it.

The place has an upstairs bar, which serves pizza and, you guessed it, drinks. It is the main gathering place other than the small common area where the television is. The night we were there they were showing a documentary which was rather fascinating.

The breakfast is bread bread and more breads. They speak both english and spanish there.

This hostel is a great place to stay in Recoleta - close to everything in one of the best neighborhoods in BsAs. There is a great patio bar where you can get cheap beer and relax with friends and other guests. All of the staff is really helpful and friendly, and the owner is a great guy! We also enjoyed hanging out with the cat, Ty.

Location, location, location! Close to the buses, subte and tourist spots. Grocery store is close however the kitchen is extremly small. Only room for one person. Limited amounts of showers available but plenty of hot water.

The place is incredible, in old building and great painted. The room (8bed) was ok, but a little stuffy. The breakfast was fine. We met great people there. Good location.

in the internet we read many good things about this hostel and the pictures looked nice as well

we did not feel comfortable at all, stuff was friendly and toilets and shower rooms were okay, the room was not nice with dirty sheets, in the room with the towels cats were sitting on them

I would not come here again

central place to stay, cheap

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A great place at a great price for travellers who want to enjoy Buenos Aires while staying in a safe, central location. El Sol Recoleta is truly one of a kind. Run by a friendly staff that includes artists, adventurers and intellectuals from various countries, we're conveniently located at the southern end of Recoleta neighborhood. Sights such as the Obelisk, Plaza de Mayo, Teatro Colon, Congreso, Cemeterio de Recoleta and the Florida Street promenade are only minutes away by foot. The well preserved French-style building (1890) evokes the glorious past of the city's Golden Age, although the gritty, fast-paced and highly cultured vibe of contemporary Buenos Aires is never far.The hostel is located on three floors (sorry, no elevator, but we will help you with your luggage, no worries!). There are 4-6-bed dorms, private rooms with shared or private bathrooms. All the rooms on the 1st level have nice balconies, the 2nd level has an open-air terrace and a bar where we make most delicious pizzas and serve drinks in the evenings. At the weekends we organize concerts with local or international bands, don't miss it!The breakfast we serve is a typical argentinian breakfast with fresh pastries. "Medialunas y facturas", daily delivered from the bakery. Dulce de leche, of course :-) Plenty of coffee, milk an tea.In order to remain affordable we provide modestly decorated rooms and fewer extra services. Please remember that this is an affordable youth hostel, not a hotel. We'll go out of our way to make you feel welcome and well informed about our city.Tango shows, tickets for football matches, entrance to clubs and info about the events in BsAs - are only a few things available at the reception. We can call you a cab, arrange an airport transfer, provide you with maps of the city and the neighbourhood area.El Sol Recoleta is the perfect choice for easy-going adventurers, budget-minded backpackers and anyone else looking for a unique place to stay. Think of it as sharing a big house with other travellers.Nos vemos pronto!kind regards,Paul Gallinato and the El Sol Staff. ... more   less
