Owned by Viviana Corte, a local female entrepreneur, the Posada Palermo B&B is charming, artsy-eclectic and comfortable ... a warm welcome & necessity after 3 planes & 24 hours of travel. Every day started w/ a delicious breakfast at the huge dining table in the main house, where we exchanged adventures w/ our fellow B&B-mates and Alejandro, the B&B's Concierge.
RESERVATIONS & ROOMS
We stayed a total of 5 nights in 3 different rooms - all were very comfortable, clean & safe - but given the choice, opt for quiet room #2 or spacious 2-room suite #3. The rooms were between $90-110 USD per night and included breakfast.
Reservations are made via email ([--]) or telephone if you're fluent in Argentine or Spanish ([--]). Plan to pay cash upon arrival.
ARRIVAL / TAXIS
The B&B is a 30 minute taxi ride from the BA Int'l Airport - use “Radio Taxis” only. Walk outside the terminal to the cab stand/line and bring your best “with purpose” walk/attitude. Competitor taxis look identical in color (black & yellow) to Radio Taxis but you are wise to avoid them due to lack of regulated meters, among other things. Our taxi ride to the Palermo area cost $60 pesos (that’s $20 USD). Also, they are overjoyed for a tip of 10% in this country (both taxi drivers and waiters).
UBER HIP PALERMO
You can walk almost everywhere from the B&B in Palermo. One day following lunch, we walked to SERRANO PLAZA, near the intersection of El Salvador and Armenia Streets in the Palermo area. This spot is roughly 8 blocks from the B&B and reminded us very much of New York city’s Soho district. Many trendy retail shops, bars and restaurants lined the streets. Most were open on Sunday and the “cool” crowd of BA was there as well.
LEATHER
Alejandro, the “concierge” at the B&B, suggested that we visit Murillo Street which we found to be absolutely the best place in Buenos Aires to find great leather. It was a 10 minute taxi ride from the B&B and cost $3-4 American. Expect an automatic 10% off the marked price for cash. Beyond that, you’ll have to work harder. We were able to buy for prices generally 20-25% off the marked price by being willing to walk out of stores.
MUST TRIES
*The Roof ([--]), although we can't speak to the actual food, the wine cellar is impressive, as are the original wells (discovered during construction) which are covered w/ acrylic slabs so that you can view down into them through the floor.
*La Retirada (they make a secret marinade/sauce that's like no other!)
*La Cabrera ([--])
*Social Paraiso ([--])
MISC
Argentina is 5 hours ahead of Pacific Time in the US. Laundering of clothes is available for $2 per load.
Enjoy!
