Simply the best Bed & Breakfast we have stayed at anywhere in the world. Mix equal parts of hospitality, exceptional service, perfect location and great architectural charm with sophisticated fellow travelers and you have the Posada Palermo.
The owner, Viviana and the manager, Alejandro are the warmest, most charming people we have ever met. Their willingness to share their home and their culture and their knowledge of Buenos Aires willingly and openly was a great start to a fantastic trip. How nice to start off a trip to a foreign country with two fast friends within an hour of landing at the airport!!
Their staff works tirelessly but invisibly to ensure that the rooms are spotless and comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing. Along with home made pastries, jams, preserves and spreads, there was the daily jamon y queso grilled sandwich. Fresh fruit was always available. Then, eggs cooked to order. We always ate too much and stayed at breakfast too long, The conversation and experience sharing with fellow guests was just as nourishing as the hearty breakfast. This was the BEST breakfast spread we ever enjoyed at a bed and breakfast.
Our room was very well equipped. Every convenience we needed was thoughtfully provided. At no time did we feel like something we needed was missing. There was ample storage for each of us en suite in the form of a capacious antique armoire. The water in the shower was hot and with good volume. Hot showers were very refreshing. The lovely wood floors were covered with tasteful rugs to soften them just so. A thoughtful touch was the writing desk in the room with a high intensity lamp. Perfect for journaling the day's experiences after a long day of discovery.
In our minds, we could not imagine a better location for a B&B in Buenos Aires than in Palermo. This particular location on Salguero is a perfect part of Palermo. A typical produce market is across the street. This location is quiet at night but lively with residents by day. Its in the heart of a residential neighborhood where a traveler can be immersed in the local way of life. The best empanadas in Buenos Aires are just one block away. There are wonderful restaurants in either direction within 5 minutes walking distance including our favorite in all of Buenos Aires. We even found a live jazz nightclub and an Argentinian folk music nightclub within 10 minutes walking distance. The nightclubs are two of our best experiences while in Buenos Aires. Farmacias and shops of all types dot the streets in all directions. The nearby church (on Plaza Guemes) hosted a wedding nearly every evening. We enjoyed being uninvited sidewalk guests. The park at Plaza Guemes was another of our favorite places. It is a coming together location for all of the surrounding neighborhoods and we interacted with local residents of all ages on a daily basis there.
The architecture of the Posada reminded us of a Tuscan farm house. Our room contained lots of old brick and wooden plank floors. The ceilings were tall with large windows. Our room (#3) felt like 3 rooms: a bedroom, an entry area and hallway and a lovely en suite bath room. One of us is an architecture buff and never got enough of the before and after pictures of the property.
We never felt like we were staying at a hotel while we were at the Posada; rather, we felt we were staying at the home of good friends.
