We loved staying at Mansilla 3935. Carlos and Marta and their children were lovely and took very good care of us. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The area nearby was just what we wanted. There were outside cafes, a small park, great people watching and wonderful ice cream all just a block away. The subway stop was fairly close by too. However, even set right in the bustle of the city, Mansilla was very quiet inside. Breakfast was great with a large variety of food. And some day I hope we can go and stay with Carlos and Marta again.

We also stayed at the suggestion of Lorena at Casa Palermitano when she was unable to accommodate us. If nothing else, you have to love these people for being perfectly gracious to welcome us at 2 a.m. after a missed flight from Santiago (it is their private home, after all).

As the previous reviewer stated, the rooms are plain, but clean, quiet and functional. And, yes, that shower pressure was nice to have on a short night's rest.

We never met Marta in person, but her daughter was a delightful breakfast host, and she speaks excellent English.

I don't know BA well enough to comment on the location, but it seems good, and you can't quibble with the value.

  • Liked — The location, cleanliness, and value (OK, that's three things!)
  • Disliked — The decor was a bit plain

We stayed at the excellent Casa Palermitano for the first part of our BA stay but unfortunately they couldnt fit us in for later dates when we were due to come back to BA after visiting Iguazu. Lorena, the owner at Casa Palermitano, helpfully recommended Mansilla 3935. We were hesitant because we had read another trip advisor review saying it was very basic and nowhere near as good as Casa P. However we booked because we were only going to be staying for one night and thought lets just do it.

Im SO glad we did! It was $50 USD a night - the cheapest of anywhere we stayed - and whilst ok it was not the Hilton, it was EXCELLENT value for money. In terms of comfort, location and staff it ticked all the boxes - great beds (have to say most places we stayed in Argentina had wonderfully firm, comfortable beds - as someone with back problems i was delighted!), beautiful historic building in a great location in Palermo, very plain decor but i liked that -felt almost monastic going into this very peaceful-(didnt experience any of the noise issues that the other reviewer mentioned - it was lovely and quiet and there were other guests staying) - all white decor and clean - very very clean! bathroom good - and shower pressure wonderful, Marta and her family excellent hosts, breakfast good - really what more could you want for a basic, clean, comfy stay.

In summary would recommend either here or Casa Palermitano if you want to stay in Palermo - Mansilla has slightly better location and shower pressure but more plain rooms in terms of decor and we were very impressed with Lorena at Casa P's helpfulness in terms of suggesting things like restaurants etc - you might get this at Mansilla too, its just that we werent staying long enough to know. I would also recommend if you have time to also spend some of your stay at a place in San Telmo so you can soak up the different atmos of that area - 1890 Hotel Boutique an excellent choice (see my separate review).

If you want to know what staying with a local family is like, then this is the place for you. The resident Innkeepers (Marta and Carlos) were very nice and would have coffee with you if you want to chat, but weren't nosy - so, better than staying with family :) They were very attentive and much more helpful than the typical hotel concierge. Indeed, they would not even let me pay for all the local calls I made from their phone - which are expensive in Argentina.
The rooms are very clean and rather large. The house is well-preserved and has nice historic touches such as original doors, high ceilings, and interior patios. The wi-fi internet works, and they have a large and again typical Argentine breakfast with everything from toast to both types of medialunas. The location is perfect - you can walk to Plaza Serrano in less than 10 minutes, it's easy to catch a cab, and busses and the metro are a few blocks away. Not being on a major avenue means you don't have all the traffic noise. This is also a very safe neighborhood. If you prefer an authentic experience in a great neighborhood instead of a touristy overpriced hotel, then this is the perfect place.

I stayed at this B&B during a week-long conference in Buenos Aires. I was on a budget but wanted to stay at a good location and within walking distance from the La Rural Convention Center. I was not disappointed! The owners Marta and her family were super friendly and helpful. The room was clean and simple. Her son was very helpful with directions and spoke English well. It is located in Palermo Viejo- a very safe neighborhood. I walked everywhere and had a wonderful time! The only thing is that the soundproofing of this building is not too good so I had to tiptoe on the way out in the morning.
