First off, I must say that all the positive reviews preceding mine are absolutely true about this impeccably clean and well maintained urban B&B. Palermo Viejo’s owner-operator, Ariel, is one in a million – a man who has truly found his calling. The level of care and assistance that Ariel provides to his guests far exceeds that of luxury hotels ten times the price. With authentic sincerity, in-depth knowledge about his native Argentina, and an effortless charm, Ariel answers questions and solves problems as quickly as they come at him – and he can do so in several languages. Ariel’s staff is equally friendly and accommodating. Care is taken in everything they do, including squeezing your fresh orange juice the morning you wake up, not the night before.
The location of this B&B turned out to be an ideal base for exploring the rest of Argentina (we had initially wanted to book something downtown). Internal flights (i.e. to Iguazu Falls or Ushuaia) leave not from EZE but from AEP, a cheap, 10-minute cab ride from this B&B. This convenience was a delightful surprise! I also came to appreciate staying in a real neighborhood rather than a tourist district (not to mention the savings). Ariel’s neighborhood is full of useful shops and services and it has some of the best restaurants and nightlife in the city. Palermo Viejo’s location alone would make it a good base from which to explore Argentina. Having Ariel at the helm makes it an ideal one.
